Marquette University is a Catholic, Jesuit institution near downtown Milwaukee and is the world’s first coeducation catholic university. The private research university has around 11,000 total students and is home to the only private law school and dental school in the state. Undergraduates can choose from more than 70 majors and over 80 minors, as well as pre-professional programs in law, dentistry and medicine. Marquette offers a number of special academic programs that include internships in Washington, D.C. or study abroad opportunities to more than 100 destinations. Marquette also offers a variety of merit awards and scholar programs, including full-tuition awards for social justice, engineering, and students from the Milwaukee area. In line with its Jesuit values, students at Marquette are encouraged to engage in community service, where each semester, students work with community agencies through service-learning programs. Marquette fields 16 NCAA Division I teams that compete in the Big East Conference. Outside of the classroom, student activities can range from visiting the university’s art museum to celebrating National Marquette Day, a tradition held for over 25 years.
