Multivitamins for men contain key vitamins, minerals and nutrients specifically formulated with a man’s dietary needs in mind. They have all sorts of functions, explains Amanda Kostro Miller, a registered dietitian and licensed dietitian nutritionist of the herb and botanical medicine resource center The Botanical Institute, including, “nourishing the skin, regulating hormones, fighting inflammation and filling in various nutritional gaps.”
There are many different types of multivitamins on the market, including ones that are gender, age or life-stage specific. While it might seem like there are too many, Kostro Miller says this is a good thing since everyone has different nutritional needs. “When you compare all the different options, you’ll notice each multivitamin has different amounts of vitamins and minerals based on gender, age or lifestyle needs,” she says. “Different products may even contain proprietary blends with added benefits for anti-inflammation, joint health or memory support.”
Formulations will vary, but many multivitamins for men contain:
- Vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K
- Thiamine
- Riboflavin
- Niacin
- Pantothenic acid
- Pyridoxine
- Biotin
- Folate
- Cobalamin
- Calcium
- Potassium
Consult with your doctor before starting a multivitamin as some vitamins, like A and E, can be harmful in high doses.
