Your Best Look Yet At Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6

Following

Updated June 17 with details on the next Galaxy Unpacked event: article originally posted June 15.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event will be the moment the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be presented to the public. Yet many details of the hardware and the design have come to light in the run-up to the July launch. Now, we have our best look yet of the next-generation foldable.

Update: Monday June 17.

While Samsung has yet to publicly confirm the dates for the next Galaxy Unpacked event, leaked imagery was published by tech reporter Evan Blass. This has highlighted July 10th as the launch date, when the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 is expected to be revealed, alongside the smaller Galaxy Z Flip 6 foldable, the new Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra, and the Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro.

With several smartphone launches over the next few months, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will be one of the first flagships to debut in the second half of the year. Samsung took the lead in with January’s launch of the Galaxy S24 family and the bundled Galaxy AI software. Now it's looking to do the same with its two new foldables.

Notably, the July 10th date is earlier than previous Galaxy Unpacked events scheduled for the summer. Given Samsung is one of the main sponsors of the Summer Olympic Games, launching its new hardware ahead of its association with one of the biggest global sporting events should allow for a significant number of activations throughout France’s hosting of the Games.

New details on the design come from credible insider Ice Universe. Posting on X (neé Twitter), they offer clear views of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from several angles. These dummy units are typically provided to peripheral manufacturers to test their fixtures and fittings alongside an accurate reference model.

While we might not see the impact of Galaxy AI, we can see everything about what it sits inside.

First up is the wider cover screen. Physically, this is not a huge difference from the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but the impact on the tall and thin profile could be substantial. The Android UI loves to have a big, long ribbon of information, be it a social media timeline, an email inbox, or an album tracklist, but these lists do need enough width to display enough information. It’s been a bit of a squeeze on older models, so I’m excited to see how this small expansion works out.

Then you have the silhouette of the design. Samsung has updated this to offer the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a more boxy shape. That increases the internal volume slightly (something that the original designers no doubt appreciated). It also reduces the radius of the corners which in turn will offer a sharper corner to the cover screen and the internal display. That’s more screen real estate, less lost information when looking at media, and a more natural look to your information.

Finally, you have the camera island and the three camera lenses. Many in the Samsung community hoped the Z Fold 6 would see an update to the foldable’s optical hardware. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 camera was reused on last year’s Z Fold 5. The latest details pointed to Samsung using the same hardware in a third model, and Ice Universe’s model backs up that information.

The industry is adopting AI as fast as possible, and Samsung has made a strong play to take the leading role through Galaxy AI on the Galaxy S24 family (as well as backporting the AI features to the Galaxy S23 family). The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will add to that AI effort alongside with the new hardware.
