DreamCloud Mattress Review: A Hybrid Designed For Most Sleepers

With responsiveness from innersprings and pressure relief from foam, hybrid mattresses offer the best of both worlds, making them a dream option for most sleepers. One popular model is the DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress, featuring gel-infused memory foam and individually wrapped coils topped with a luxurious cashmere-blend cover. It’s designed for those who want a comfortable, breathable and supportive mattress with a medium-firm feel.

After avoiding any type of foam mattress altogether in fear of that sink-in sensation, I’ve recently found an appreciation for hybrid mattresses. I gravitate toward models that provide superior pressure relief and the support I require as a side and stomach sleeper without making me feel like I’m stuck and unable to move positions. I tested the DreamCloud Hybrid for over a month, and it not only checks all my boxes but is a strong contender for almost every type of sleeper. Here’s my comprehensive breakdown and experience after carefully scrutinizing each feature for this DreamCloud Mattress review.

DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress Construction, Firmness And Feel

Heavy To Move But Luxurious To Sleep On

The DreamCloud is a 12-inch-thick hybrid mattress with layers of temperature-regulating, gel-infused memory foam, durable innersprings and cozy cashmere. It’s also available in a fully memory foam option.

  • Cover: A soft and breathable cover made with a blend of cashmere, polyester and rayon.
  • Comfort layers: A supportive blend of CertiPUR-US-certified gel memory foam for contoured cushioning and a second layer of CertiPUR-US-certified memory foam for support are quilted into the cover.
  • Comfort layer: A 1-inch-thick CertiPUR-US-certified gel-infused memory foam layer to give adaptive support, responsive contouring and pressure relief for your neck, shoulders, back and hips.
  • Transition layer: Additional gel-infused memory foam to promote proper alignment and ensure that you won’t feel any springs.
  • Support layer: Individually wrapped innerspring steel coils promote airflow and reduce motion transfer, with thicker coils around the perimeter for reinforced edge support.
  • Base layer: A half inch of CertiPUR-US-certified standard foam to provide solid structure and support for the layers on top.

For the first week I slept on it, this mattress felt closer to the firm category, or what I’d consider an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale, which is slightly firmer than advertised. DreamCloud rates this hybrid mattress a 6.5 out of 10, which is the industry standard for medium-firm. However, by the end of the month, it settled in closer to a 7, and I would describe it as a true medium-firm. At 5 foot 3 and 130 pounds, I tend to rate mattresses slightly firmer than my husband (6 foot 3 and 180 pounds), but we both agreed with the initial assessment and agreed on how it felt after sleeping on it for a month.

I am always slightly worried when first trying hybrid mattresses with foam, as I strongly dislike the sinking-in sensation most all-foam mattresses offer, but I didn’t have to worry about that at all with the DreamCloud Hybrid. It offers a firm, lifted feel with a slight pillow top for comfort. Both my husband and I slept “on” rather than “in” the mattress. I am the very definition of a combination sleeper, spending equal time on my back and stomach and the most time on my side.

DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress Features

Temperature-Regulating Materials With Superior Pressure Relief

While this bed in a box arrived in compact and secure packaging, it was very heavy to move. The California king weighs about 98 pounds, and I had to ask my husband for help getting it from our front door to the bedroom. This hybrid mattress took shape almost immediately after opening, which we didn’t expect, and so we hadn’t moved it into position yet. Thankfully, the bed is designed with four durable handles, which were a huge help.

Off-gassing often accompanies foam beds, but I didn’t notice any smell upon opening or in the first 24 hours, which I was thankful for, since we slept on the mattress about 10 hours after setting it up. DreamCloud mentions that you can start sleeping on the mattress after just a few hours but says that it could take up to 72 hours for it to fully expand. Even though my previous mattress was also a hybrid model, the first week was an adjustment—both my husband and I would wake up with a few aches and pains. Up until the second week, we weren’t sure whether we would keep this mattress or go back to our old one. However, we soon started sleeping better and waking up more refreshed than ever before and now love sleeping on our DreamCloud Hybrid.

Pressure Relief

Normally, I wouldn’t think a medium-firm bed would contour my pressure points enough when sleeping on my side, since I have a small frame, but I’ve noticed fewer aches and pains in my shoulders than with any mattress before. This really demonstrates the amount of responsive contouring and pressure relief from the comfort layers. My husband and I are typically both combination sleepers who change positions often at night, but we’ve noticed less tossing and turning with the DreamCloud. One note my husband mentioned is that he went to sleep on his back and woke up on his back, which is extremely rare for him. Overall, we feel more comfortable and supported in all positions.

Cooling

My husband sleeps extremely hot and frequently wakes up sweaty in the middle of the night. While the last hybrid mattress we tested had a similar construction with springs and foam, he had several sweaty nights. However, he didn’t wake up sweating at all in the 30-plus days of sleeping on the DreamCloud Hybrid. This mattress was designed with airflow in mind, from the breathable cashmere-blend cover to the cooling gel memory foam. While I wouldn’t say it feels cool to the touch, I absolutely recommend it for hot sleepers.

Motion Transfer

Since my husband and I have different sleep schedules, motion transfer is always an important feature for us to consider in a new mattress. The DreamCloud Hybrid seems to have average to above-average motion isolation. When deep in sleep, we never felt the other person get out of bed, and it definitely never caused us to wake up. Motion absorbs very well and doesn’t travel across the mattress.

Support

For superior support, this hybrid mattress uses gel-infused memory foam and separately wrapped springs that move independently to provide customized contouring. Plus, it’s also designed with thicker coils near the perimeter to enhance edge support. The center support is great. However, the edge support is lacking, and I can easily push down on the side of the mattress. My husband and I have a total weight of 310 combined, with him being 6 foot 3, and it supports our weight well. DreamCloud says that this hybrid mattress in a queen size can support up to 1,000 pounds and is capable of supporting all shapes and sizes.

Ease Of Movement

After sleeping on the DreamCloud for over a month, I never once felt stuck in the bed. But I didn’t think it was too bouncy either. It really has the ideal balance of foam and innersprings that allow you to move without any difficulty yet not bounce all over the place. I can easily shift positions in the middle of the night without much effort.

About The Company

If you’ve been diligently searching for mattresses online, you’ve likely already seen DreamCloud recommended countless times. What you might not know is that DreamCloud sits under the Resident Home company umbrella, which also owns another popular brand, Nectar. Both are known for affordable yet quality sleep products. While it now has an all-foam option, DreamCloud originally launched in 2018 with its hybrid models as a direct-to-consumer mattress company.

Shipping And Delivery

Shipping is free, and since this mattress is one of the most popular options, it’s usually in stock and ready to ship within one or two business days. For an additional fee, DreamCloud offers premium in-home setup with the option of removing your old mattress.

Trial Period And Returns

DreamCloud mattresses come with a 365-night trial and free returns in the contiguous U.S. if you decide not to keep the mattress. The brand recommends a minimum of 30 days before making any decision, to allow your body to acclimate to the new mattress.

Warranty

A lifetime warranty covers indentations greater than 1.5 inches as long as you use a supportive base or foundation. It also covers any physical flaws that cause the foam to degrade or split, as well as manufacturing defects.

Other Mattresses From The Brand

The DreamCloud is the brand’s base model. You can upgrade to memory foam options or models with more enhanced features, like the DreamCloud Premier and DreamCloud Premier Rest.

DreamCloud Memory Foam Mattress (Queen)

If you love the temperature regulation and pressure relief provided by the gel-infused memory foam but don’t want any innersprings, this same model is offered in an all-foam version. The brand says it offers more sinkage and motion isolation than the hybrid model.

DreamCloud Premier Rest (Queen)

For the biggest upgrade, the DreamCloud Premier Rest is the brand’s thickest, cushiest mattress, with additional foam and a cashmere-blend quilted deluxe Euro top for ultimate comfort. DreamCloud says it performs the best for support, comfort and cooling. Check out our in-depth DreamCloud Premier Rest review to learn more.

Final Thoughts

Based on my experience, I recommend the DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress to any sleeper with any preferred position, as long as they aren’t looking for the telltale sinking-in sensation you find in memory foam beds. With its medium-firm feel and excellent pressure relief, I think it’s ideal for bridging the gap for partners with different sleep preferences. Those who sleep hot should also enjoy the temperature-regulating materials. DreamCloud mentions this mattress is designed for every type of sleeper, and I agree. The main exception is someone who sleeps best on a softer mattress or extra-firm mattress, as this has a medium to medium-firm feel.

How I Tested The DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress

Sleeping on it night after night is the best way to test any mattress, so I did just that for over a month. I am a combination sleeper with a smaller frame who also spends hours reading or escaping the office chair by writing in bed. My husband is tall with a medium build and is an extremely hot sleeper. We also have completely conflicting sleep schedules. All of this allowed me to fully gauge temperature-regulating properties and motion isolation, as well as pressure relief and support in various sitting and sleeping positions. Each week, I asked my husband for his assessment and wrote down notes on various features.
