Post Malone has been steadily working his way into the country genre for more than a year. Until now, he’s largely done so with collaborations as a featured artist, or with less flashy promotional cuts. He takes a big step into the field with his first proper country single, which features the style’s biggest star.
“I Had Some Help” by Malone and Morgan Wallen was released on Friday (May 10), and it’s become an immediate sales hit. The track bolted right to the summit on iTunes’ ranking of the bestselling tracks on the platform in the U.S.
The Malone/Wallen collaboration is so popular, it actually appears inside the top five on the American iTunes chart twice. Two versions of the track land at Nos. 1 and 4, at the time of writing.
This isn’t uncommon for major musicians who are looking to rack up a healthy sales count with their latest singles. Fans of the superstars–in this case both Malone and Wallen–are eager to support them, so some of them buy both takes, propelling them up the iTunes chart.
It’s clear that “I Had Some Help” is selling very well–both editions. Billboard will lump both tracks into one entity, so purchases of the two will lead to the song earning a lofty starting point on some charts next week.
After only a few hours of availability, “I Had Some Help” is already likely heading to Billboard’s song sales charts. The company publishes a general tally–the Digital Song Sales ranking–and one that’s specific to country. Malone and Wallen will almost certainly launch very high on the latter, and will likely enjoy a warm reception on the all-style list as well.
Depending on how “I Had Some Help” performs in the next six days, the two musicians could have a proper smash on their hands. Both Malone and Wallen are among the most popular and successful men in the music industry at the moment, and they’ve both charted hits very recently. The two of them on a cut, that’s clearly being adopted without hesitation, suggests that a Hot 100 hit has just been released.
