Real Madrid has approached the entourage of Spain and Athletic Club star Nico Williams with a view to possibly signing him this summer according to El Nacional, which cited anonymous sources.
Alongside his fellow winger in FC Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal, Nico is currently lighting up the Euros where La Roja is the only country to have won all of its games so far.
Luis de la Fuente's men will next play in the round of 16 on Sunday, and until then, Nico continues to be linked to Lamine's club Barca but now also its bitter rivals Real Madrid.
The departures of captain Nacho and Joselu to the Middle East mean that Los Blancos are about to lose two Spaniards.
That leaves just four across the squad, which is the same amount of Brazilians and Frenchmen considering Kylian Mbappe will soon be incorporated following the confirmation of his free transfer move from Paris Saint-Germain.
In Leny Yoro, a fifth star from France could form part of head coach Carlo Ancelotti's group after MARCA reported that Madrid will "accelerate" its operation to sign him.
To remedy this, President Florentino Perez has set aside $85.5 million (€80 million) to sign two Spanish players according to El Nacional, which reports that Nico has caught Madrid's attention thanks to his "versatility and speed".
Nico is expected to cost around €60 million, and Madrid has "already sounded out his entourage to find out what chances they have of convincing him".
The Catalan outlet adds however that it seems unlikely Nico will accept an offer from Madrid.
There he would probably sit on the bench because of competition from the likes of Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. which, according to OK Diario, has prompted Rodrygo's father to listen to offers.
Nico would be guaranteed more minutes at Barca, which needs a left winger, though raising Athletic Club's asking price won't be straightforward in times of attempting to fall on the right side of Financial Fair Play limits and return to the 1:1 rule.
As for the remaining $21.3 million (€20 million) Madrid has reportedly allocated for its Spanish project, that could be spent on Chelsea loanee Kepa given Andriy Lunin's possible exit out of the club.
