Megan Thee Stallion Slithers Out With New Single ‘Boa’

Following

Megan Thee Stallion has been undergoing a transformation from stallion to serpent on the road to her third studio album. The Grammy-winning rapper first gave a taste of the project last fall with the lead single “Cobra” and she kicked off this year with the track “Hiss.” Now, Megan is back with “Boa,” her third serpentine single from the LP.

Megan teams up with longtime producer LilJuMadeDaBeat for the song, which samples Gwen Stefani’s 2004 hit single “What You Waiting For?” as Megan raps with the confident swagger fans have come to expect from her. “B***hes is bitter, they thought it was sweet / All of a sudden they vegan, they don't want beef / Talkin' outta veeners, I'm knockin' out teeth,” she says on the track. In the Jumanji-esque video, she becomes the video game villain of her dreams while cycling through eye-popping outfits and backdrops that have become synonymous with the Hot Girl’s visuals.

Lyrically, the song is more in line with the no-holds-barred attitude of “Hiss” than the more emotionally vulnerable “Cobra.” When speaking about the album in her Women’s Health cover story last month, Megan explained that she went with the snake motif because of the symbolism of becoming a new person after shedding the past.

“I was inspired to create this album about rebirth because I feel I am becoming a new person physically and mentally,” the Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree said. “They’re feared, misunderstood, respected, healing.”

“I’ve always struggled to figure out how to be vulnerable and still make music that is going hard at the same time,” she added. Now, she’s able to strike more of a balance that showcases both her professional and personal sides.

“I’m getting into a better space with making music that is still true to myself but also true to my message,” she said. “I am very much a flower, but my flower has thorns.”

Megan’s first-ever headlining tour, the Hot Girl Summer Tour, kicks off May 14 and will take her and GloRilla across North America through the end of July.
