iPhone 16 Pro Exclusive Highlights Apple’s Newest Feature

Following

As Apple prepares the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, the mystery around the design slowly lifts. Now, we have an exclusive look at the two new iPhones showing the new features.

The scoop comes via longtime Apple leaker Sonny Dickson; one of the protective cases is under development for two upcoming models, the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro. Two key changes Apple will bring to the iOS-powered smartphone are on show.

The first is the arrangement of the two camera lenses in the iPhone 16. Last year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus used a diagonal arrangement on the main camera island. This year, it will move to a vertical arrangement. This becomes a horizontal arrangement when held in the classic landscape mode, allowing stereoscopic video recording for playback on the Vision Pro headset as an Apple-branded Spatial Video.

The second is the location of the Capture Button. Last year, the programmable Action Button was added to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and a new button was added to the physical interface. The capacitive Capture Button will presumably be used as a shutter/record button for the Camera app. There’s also a good chance that the capacitive circuitry will allow for a two-stage button that will focus lock with a light press before a second press takes the image.

Unlike the Action Button last year, the Capture Button can be seen on both the vanilla iPhone and higher-specced Pro models, promising a unified experience. Although not on show in the current imagery, blank ‘mock-ups’ of the new iPhone models show the Action Button across the full range of handsets.

Apple traditionally launches the new iPhone models on the second Tuesday of September, which suggests the iPhone 16 family’s reveal will be on Tuesday, September 10th.
