The Big Island of Hawaii is aptly named. Many things are just that: big.
The 4,000-square-mile island is the largest in the United States. The state namesake contains the bulk of the archipelago’s landmass at close to two times that of the other islands combined. Perhaps not surprisingly, some of the state’s most expensive home sales have taken place on the Big Island.

Although certain off-market properties are asking more, outsizing current public listings is a nearly 14,500-square-foot estate home in the Kailua-Kona area priced at $49 million―outpacing the public record sale of $43 million three years ago that was brokered by Hawaii Life.

“This is a very rare opportunity for a home like this to come up for sale near Kukio Beach,” says listing agent Carrie Nicholson of Hawaii Life. Within walking distance are dining and recreational options at the private Kukio Golf and Beach Club and the adjacent Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.
