$15 Million Estate Sets The Standard Of Elegance In D.C.’s Georgetown

Following

As the oldest neighborhood in Washington D.C., Georgetown is known for its historic significance. Take a closer look, however, and you will find set amongst the stately buildings and cobblestone streets is a palpable vibrancy. The same sentiment could be said for one of it’s premier mansions that has recently arrived on the market.

Fronted by a circular driveway with ample parking, the Federal-style residence with a brick-laden facade rises an imposing three of the four total stories. An oval window and spiral adornments are displayed above the ornate portico through which the impressive estate is entered.

While the home’s original appearance from the street has remained largely unchanged since its construction in 1941, the interior paints a more modern picture.

“A complete and pristine interior renovation by Gibson Builders was conducted 14 years ago,” says listing agent Martha Slagle of Long & Foster Real Estate. “Every inch of the home—every doorknob, every ceiling, every light fixture, every floorboard, every wall—-was taken down to the stud and luxuriously rebuilt.”

The result is elegant, contemporary living spaces with traditional touches. Four neoclassical European fireplaces found throughout showcase elaborate carvings. A consistent, refined aesthetic is achieved by crown, base and entryway moldings. Meticulous metalwork distinguishes a towering custom staircase topped by a broad skylight.

The main level encompasses a dining room, sunroom and breakfast room as well as an impressive chef’s kitchen, complete with honed marble countertops, a butler’s pantry and top-of-the-line appliances. One floor up, two en suite bedrooms sit off of a spacious seating area. Nearby, a classic library with French doors leads out to a terrace.

The apex of the residence, accessible by stairs or elevator, is solely reserved for the primary suite, marketed as the largest in all of Georgetown. Walls of windows bathe the penthouse suite in natural light. A fireplace adorns the seating area that blends seamlessly with the bedroom. Two oversized closets, a beauty salon, bathroom with dressing room and primary bath with walk-in shower, lounge area and circular soaking tub, complete the floor.

On the opposite end of the home, the lowest level houses a bedroom, living area and additional kitchen.

While the historic estate’s wealth of amenities and intimate spaces certainly make for a comfortable, albeit grand, place to call home, Slagle says the true spirit of the residence comes alive when entertaining. “The way the home is designed—with four sets of French doors opening to terraces and tiers leading to the specular back gardens—you have these fabulous entertaining spaces that you won’t find anywhere else in Georgetown.”

Enclosed by high walls covered in verdant ivy, the Baroque gardens are lush with roses, herbs and perennial flowers and shrubs, meriting its inclusion in the Secret Gardens of Georgetown. A sprawling swimming pool centers the backyard, decorated with fountain features and surrounded by newly installed limestone.

Terraces overlook the gardens, connecting the second story to the outdoors and drawing guests throughout the home. With this blending of indoor and outdoor entertaining spaces, the stylish estate is tailor-made to accommodate hundreds of guests.

Located at 3210 R Street NW, the 10,000-square-foot home features a total of five bedrooms, six full bathrooms and two half-baths. The asking price is $15 million.
