The Grateful Dead Has A Special Release Coming Tomorrow

Following

The Grateful Dead fans can’t seem to get enough from the band. The group regularly rolls out live recordings, archive offerings, and re-releases of some favorites on special formats, and they always sell well. The jammers have something special coming tomorrow (April 20), and followers will want to rush to grab a copy while they’re still available.

On Saturday, the Grateful Dead will release their album Nightfall of Diamonds on vinyl. The set is being made available as part of Record Store Day 2024.

Nightfall of Diamonds is coming to local, independent record stores across the U.S. in a form it’s never been made available in before. The title has been pressed on 180g vinyl, and it will be sold as a four-LP set.

According to the project’s page on the Record Store Day website, only 10,000 copies of this recording have been pressed. That may sound like a sizable number, but Grateful Dead fans are numerous and rabid, and those likely won’t last long. They’re also spread out across states, so each location may only have a few copies—if any at all.

Nightfall of Diamonds was first released in September 2001. The title reached No. 196 on the Billboard 200, barely cracking onto the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S.

The double live album was recorded at the Grateful Dead’s concert in East Rutherford, NJ, which caters largely to the NYC market. The show that was recorded for Nightfall of Diamonds took place on October 16, 1989. It was the band’s fifth night in a row at the Meadowlands venue.

The Grateful Dead is one of dozens of names taking part in Record Store Day this year. They are joined by fellow superstars like The Beatles, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, and more contemporary names like Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan.
