Michael Jackson’s Thriller is one of the most successful albums of all time in America. The title is always on the charts, as it remains a must-have for any collector, and its many hits rack up plenty of streams every week. It’s not shocking to see that blockbuster studio effort continue to do well, but that one project only tells part of the story of the singer’s impressive performance on the charts this time around.
On this week’s Billboard charts, two albums by Jackson are going strong. Both of them are on the rise–though one is definitely the winner between the pair.
Thriller rockets 25 spaces up the Billboard 200 this frame, placing at No. 122. According to Luminate, the bestseller moved another 10,097 equivalent units in the past tracking week. That’s up more than 7% from the period before.
Sales of Thriller are largely responsible for the decades-old title’s current growth. Last tracking period, the title sold 2,615 copies. That’s an improvement of more than 34% from the prior week. It’s also enough for Thriller to lift on the Top Album Sales chart from No. 46 to No. 38.
Thriller is back on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, where it reappears at No. 49. It’s also found on the Top R&B Albums tally at No. 15 after sitting at No. 18 last week.
Fans of Jackson and his music can’t seem to get enough of him, as another one of his most successful collections is also on the rise on the Billboard charts. The Essential Michael Jackson, which may be his biggest compilation of beloved singles, lifts on a trio of tallies.
The Essential Michael Jackson moved 10,949 equivalent units last week in the U.S. That includes just 565 sales, and it’s actually down slightly in consumption…but the title is still able to gain ground on the Billboard 200. On that tally, it pushes four rungs to No. 111.
On the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, The Essential Michael Jackson nearly finds its way back into the top 40. Instead, it misses that tier by two spots, settling at No. 42–up a pair of spaces. On the Top R&B Albums chart, it appears at No. 12, which is also a growth of two rungs.
