Nearing the conclusion of Round 1 with nearly 30% of the field still on the course, I talked Masters golf on the BetMGM Tonight podcast with hosts Trysta Krick, Nick Ashooh, and Ryan Horvat heard on the BetQL Network, Twitch, and the Audacy app. I discussed some of the players in early contention, Scottie Scheffler’s continued spectacular play and some of the golfers as targets in various prop bet markets, finishing position and potential win candidates in the adjusted odds market.

As you consider golfers to win The Masters and capture the green jacket, know that the odds are heavily against players more than 5-strokes behind the leader.

The strong trend shows that 17 of last 18 Masters winners were tied for 10th or better after Round 1, and & 26 of last 30 winners within 5-shots of lead.

So many of the top golfers in the field are going to be battling to move up and get back into contention after DeChambeau and Scheffler set the hot early pace in Round 1. Scottie Scheffler completed the only bogey-free round on Thursday with his 6-under par 66.

“I did a good job of staying patient today, and we kept the golf course in front of us and I executed some really nice up-and-downs to keep the round going,” Scheffler said in his press conference following his round. “I've played this tournament once before in some pretty high winds, and it's an extremely challenging golf course.”

Scheffler gained a field-best 2.8 shots Around the Green, and was 5-of-5 Scrambling.

“I'm in a place now where I've figured some stuff out with my golf game, golf swing and equipment,” DeChambeau said. “I'm just in a comfortable place where I'm doing the same thing every single week. The motion is really just tilt the shoulder to swing more inside out. That's literally all it is. And my putting is take it straight back, straight through. Those are the two biggest things I've focused on.”

Bryson’s putter was the best of all players Thursday. His Strokes Gained Putting was +3.71 while hitting 15 Greens in Regulation and making eight birdies and one bogey to shoot 65.
