It’s more fun to spoil your mother at home than take her out for Mother’s Day in my book. So, this year I put in the research to find some of the most appealing and opulent wine-based creams, treatments and makeups for that one-of-a-kind woman in your life.
Caudalie Creams
This French company has almost single handedly defined the wine-based cream and treatment category. Caudalie has a spa in Bordeaux where you can indulge in these products before, or after, a great French meal at La Table du Lavoir. The product range includes everything from dark spot brightening creams and pore minimizers to amazing resveratrol lift. I have used it four times and already see the difference (sorry mom you’ll get something else from me for Mother’s Day).
Le Domaine
Brad Pitt launched this wine-based line of gender-neutral creams. If anyone can convince men to coddle themselves with treatments and beauty products it’s surely Pitt. The Le Domaine line was created in partnership with the Perrin family from the Rhône Valley. The line is based on an antioxidant called GSM10, made from grapes. The packaging is sleek with big and impressive wooden caps that can be replaced as needed. The price tag, at $275, for 30-ml. is up there for the category but the products are lovely.
TONYMOLY
This almost two-decade old, Korean company produces a wide range of cleverly packaged wine-, and food-, based skin products. The range includes toners, masks and eye and lip creams. The TONYMOLY face masks come in every color of the rainbow, including pumpkin, tomato and avocado. There are even mochi cleansers and eye patches. The packaging is adorable and the prices are easy on the wallet with a five-pack of sheet masks going for $15.
Wine Down
This brand mixes grape extracts with fruit and vegetable compounds and resveratrol. It’s based on Texas-grown grapes and uses an ingredient which is supposed to be similar to human skin with an ability to hold several times its weight in water. Wine Down clearly highlights its suitability for all skin types, and colors, in its marketing materials. Those same materials tout these products having 5.8 times more antioxidant capacity than other products but doesn’t quite explain the math and science behind it.
Neogen
Another Korean brand, Neogen is based on a brightening ingredient called niacinamide, which reportedly helps with blemishes, freckles and issues with pores. The brand’s gauze peeling pads come in a wine-based version, as well as green tea and lemon flavors. They focus on exfoliating the skin and then moisturizing it. The brand says that its results can be seen in as little as three weeks. Some of the other top products include a pore tightener, toner and facial cleansers. The makeup locking fixer is a gem and actually really helped keep my simple makeup routine in place. The prices are also very reasonable.
