Shure Reveals The All-New Nexadyne Series Of Dynamic Mics For Stage Use

Following

It’s been a busy month or two for blue-chip audio brand Shure with high-profile product launches keeping the technology press on its toes. The latest from this iconic brand is a completely new series of vocal microphones: the all-new Shure Nexadyne dynamic microphone platform using a brand-new technology involving two transducers instead of one.

The new Nexadyne microphones are available with cardioid and supercardioid polar patterns. Shure says these new vocal microphones achieve a new level of polar pattern consistency and exceptional noise reduction, they offer a predictable sound quality that makes the new mics ideal for touring, enabling sound engineers and performers to reach a level of clarity no matter what the physical acoustics of the venue.

“Nexadyne is the next chapter of Shure’s storied history as the leader and innovator in dynamic microphone technology,” said Nick Wood, Senior Director of professional Audio Products, at Shure, during a product launch with leaders from the sound engineering community. “With built-in acoustic signal processing, the Nexadyne platform ushers in a new era of modern live performance that engineers and vocalists can trust on stage night after night.”

Shure claims that the secret to the breakthrough performance of the Nexadyne mics is down to a patented breakthrough that it calls Revonic Dual Transducer Technology. The technology considerably reduces the amount of time and effort needed for sound engineers to tweak a performer’s live vocals to stand out from the mix.

Most dynamic microphones only use one transducer; the part of the microphone that converts sound into an electrical signal. With the Revonic Technology, there are two precisely matched transducers in each mic. The two transducers work together to provide an extended range of acoustic optimization that maximizes specific frequencies and cuts down unwanted noise, especially handling noise and mechanical vibration.

In effect, the two transducers have a 180-degree opposing polarity which means they can cancel each other out when it comes to handling noise. It’s a little like the way a pair of noise-canceling headphones uses phase polarity to subtract unwanted sound. This built-in signal processing produces a stronger output than a traditional single transducer mic. Better still, the technology does away with the need for a traditional pneumatic shock mount as well as time-consuming, corrective audio editing.

Shure says that perfectly matching the two transducers requires extra attention to detail throughout the manufacturing process. By maintaining and exceeding the quality control at every stage, the Nexadyne microphones guarantee consistent performance.

Shure is a familiar brand to almost any musician and live performer. The Shure SM58 has been a stalwart of PA systems for years and now, with the introduction of Nexadyne vocal microphones, Shure claims that performers and sound engineers can be certain of an acoustically honest representation of their performance and enjoy extended clarity.

The prototypes of the Nexadyne range were tested at the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, where vocalists used the new Nexadyne microphones and, according to Shure, noticed a greater clarity and range of detail, with more control of their vocal nuance and less time holding back or pushing their voice too hard. The response time on the mics is also considerably improved which helps performers to sing at their best.

For engineers, Shure says the Nexadyne vocal microphones offer a better and clearer signal quality to work with during the mixing process. The microphones have a higher output and that means engineers can accurately reproduce and balance a performer’s vocals in the overall mix with less need for corrective audio processing like compression.

Pricing & Availability: Shure Nexadyne dynamic vocal XLR microphones and wireless capsules are available now for $299 (US) in both cardioid Nexadyne 8/C and supercardioid Nexadyne 8/S polar patterns from Shure.com and at select retailers. Nexadyne capsules will be available bundled with Shure’s industry-leading digital wireless ecosystems starting this summer, including Axient Digital, ULX-D, QLX-D, and SLX-D.
