Oppo Find X7 Ultra
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra is right up there with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra as my current favorite camera phone. While Samsung dropped the ball with a weak 3x zoom sensor on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Oppo has doubled in on optical zoom and in style – with two periscope cameras. I like clicking photos of gorgeous architecture, portrait shots, and low-light zoom photos when I’m attending concerts or cultural events – and the Find X7 Ultra is excellent for these use cases.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra sports four 50MP cameras. There’s a 1-inch main sensor with an f/1.8 lens, two 3x and 6x zoom cameras with f/2.6 and f/4.3 aperture, respectively, and an ultrawide-angle sensor. These combine to offer a versatile and fantastic camera experience.

Almost all phones now click good-looking photos in daylight with the main camera, and the Find X7 Ultra is no different. The difference can be seen in color processing, which is pleasingly vibrant. Oppo says it’s 32% more power-efficient and lens reflection is now down by 50% – visible in low-light photos with multiple light sources.
The standout combination of two periscope lenses separates the Find X7 Ultra from the other flagships. Photos clicked in 3x zoom offer a great dynamic range, accurate skin tone, fast shutter for moving subjects, and good contrast.

The presence of another 6x periscope zoom lens means you get more details in zoomed-in shots because it’s optical rather than digital. Both periscope lenses work amazingly well in low-light too and come in handy when you’re in a concert or cultural event. While the f/4.3 aperture means you won’t get a naturally shallow depth of field, the portrait shots combined with software tuning come out surprisingly well.

I like clicking portraits in 3x for the shallow depth of field but I found myself experimenting more with 6x portraits on the Find X7 Ultra, and I wasn’t disappointed. These photos had good edge detection with natural-looking background blur. As for the ultrawide camera, it captures excellent images, despite being a smaller sensor than before. I like that the colors across lenses are similar.
You also get a Master Mode that gives you more control over exposure parameters, saturation and more. The company says that Master Mode outputs color science that’s similar to Hasselblad’s $8000 medium format mirrorless camera – X2D 100C. I haven’t used the camera but photos clicked in Master mode have a more camera-like feel to them with a slight vignette and a softer overall look.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra features my favorite set of cameras because of how effortless it is to get good-looking photos out of it. I like Oppo’s color tuning and processing slightly more than other flagship phones.

The superb cameras are accompanied by a camera-like design with a textured leather finish below the massive camera module. The distinct dual-tone design doesn’t try to blend in with the competition. It is slightly top-heavy but comfortable to hold, thanks to the curved edges. Oppo’s alert slider has a new VIP mode, which disables the camera, microphone, and location access. I’m not sure about the use case here, though.
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra features a 6.8-inch display with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and Dolby Vision support. On paper, it can go up to 4,500 nits of brightness for supported HDR content, whereas the screen hovers around 2,600 nits in high-brightness mode (in direct sunlight) and 1,600 nits peak brightness. I liked interacting with the Find X7 Ultra display, and have no complaints.

Like other 2024 flagships, the Find X7 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. It’s got a 5,000mAh battery that supports 100W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. I didn’t use it as my primary phone since the user interface is mostly in Chinese but from what I can estimate, the battery life is on par with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, it’s not Honor Magic 6 Pro level.
Oppo Find X7 Ultra
The Oppo Find X7 Ultra is pushing boundaries for phone cameras. It’s my favorite camera phone currently because I didn’t feel limited in any circumstance. From daylight to zoomed-in low-light shots, it’s brilliant. The Find X7 Ultra features a fantastically versatile camera system, which is better than the current iPhones and Galaxy phones in almost every way.
However, the Oppo flagship remains a China-only device. It runs ColorOS 14, and you can still install Google services if you import it but you’re likely to face minor UI issues – but they’re worth it for the capable camera system. For those who want to import the Find X7 Ultra, it costs 6,999 yuan (around $980/INR 82,500) but you’ll likely have to deal with extra customs charges.
