Nissan has announced pricing for its newest and smallest crossover, the Kicks. The 2021 model year brings several updates to the little Nissan, ranging from new standard tech, updated exterior styling and a handful of new color choices. The starting price tag for the spunky 2021 Kicks begins at $20,650, including the $1150 destination charge.

The 2021 Nissan Kicks is offered in three trims: S, SV and SR. A 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque mated to a CVT (continuously variable transmission) is the sole powertrain. Likewise, all Kicks are front-wheel drive only, but standard traction control and hill start add value and functionality. Curiously, the base S trim still runs drum brakes in the rear; the SV and SR trims get discs front and rear.

Inside, the Kicks gets a refreshed cabin with a redesigned center console and new seating materials with deeper colors. Nissan says the Kicks remains at the top of its class in terms of front legroom, and all models offer a 60/40 folding rear seat for extra versatility in the cargo area.

Technology & Safety

Tech takes a front seat for the new model year, as every model gets a standard 7.0-inch driver instrument display and instrument cluster. Three standard USB ports, Bluetooth and a smart key system with a push-button start keep things from feeling too bargain basement. The S gets a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, while SV and SR trims get a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen.

You can’t put a price on safety, and Nissan outfitted the Kicks accordingly. The Safety Shield 360 package comes standard on every model, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warnings, radar-based blind spot warnings, rear cross-traffic alerts, high beam assist and rear automatic braking. The new Kicks hasn’t been crash-tested yet, but its predecessor earned Good ratings in most categories during 2020 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) testing.

2021 Nissan Kicks Trims & Pricing

The 2021 Nissan Kicks is on sale now, and the base S trim carries a starting price of $20,650. The mid-range SV trim starts at $22,450 and includes 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, body-colored heated outside mirrors and door handles, roof rails, automatic climate control, and more.

The top SR model starts at $23,090 and adds LED illumination, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, SR seat fabric, a rear roof-mounted spoiler, dark chrome grille accents, among other items. All include a $1,150 destination charge.

The SR trim offers an available $1,000 Premium Package that brings an eight-speaker Bose audio system, heated front seats and steering wheel, a security system, tonneau cover, NissanConnect Service, and an available Wi-Fi hotspot with over-the-air updating capability.

The Kicks competes in an increasingly crowded subcompact crossover segment that includes the Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, Jeep Renegade and others. Compared to its competition, the 2021 Kicks is generally less expensive, but it’s also missing features that some rivals get as standard, such as all-wheel drive in the Subaru Crosstrek.

Five two-tone paint combinations are on offer, including three new patterns: Super Black/Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, Super Black/Electric Blue Metallic and Super Black/Boulder Gray Pearl. Nissan
