Van lifers, pay attention.

Ford’s mostly commercial delivery van the Transit is adding to its lineup. For the 2023 model year Ford will introduce a Ford Transit Trail for outdoor adventures and on-the-road living.

Aside from an 18-second video showing the van parked in a forest early in the morning (cue the alarm and yawning sounds), Ford didn’t get into specifics of the Trail version. It said in a release it will have “adventure seeking capability” and enhancements both inside and out to appeal to the DIY and motorhome crowd. The van is intended to be adventure-ready but Ford upfitters will likely want to do more (#vanlife).

Ford CEO Jim Farley gave more details in a tweet on when to expect the Trail version of the van to arrive: November. In one of the two photos released a more robust-looking grille is emphasized.

Nearly two years ago Ford introduced the 2022 Ford E-Transit as an all-electric version of the Transit delivery van. Is an E-Transit Trail up next? Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans are a big player in the adventure living segment. The new 2023 models start at $43,500.

The Transit Trail will be made where other Transit and E-Transit vans are already made at the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri. Those vehicles start at $48,445 and $53,790, respectively. A sportier version would likely have a higher starting price than the original. The current base Transit van sports a 3.5-liter V6 engine and can tow up to 5,100 pounds.
