Once again, it’s Wordle Wednesday! Huzzah! This means that on top of our regularly scheduled Wordle (hints and clues and such below) we have an extra special riddle to solve.
Every Wednesday I give you fine Wordlers a riddle, brain teaser or logic puzzle to solve to keep things spicy. Here’s today’s:
A man wants to enter a super exclusive club but he doesn’t know the password. In order to figure it out, he sneaks over and watches the bouncer as he admits people. A woman comes up and the bouncer says “12”. The woman replies “6” and the bouncer lets her in. A man comes up next and the bouncer says “6”. The man replies “3” and the bouncer lets him in. Thinking that he’s heard enough, the first man approaches the bouncer who says “10”. The man replies “5” and is turned away.
What should he have said instead and why?

Well today’s Wordle was tough but not quite as tough as yesterday’s! That one had me (and clearly a lot of other folks) stumped!
My opening guess, SPADE, was a strong opener but unlucky (according to Wordle Bot) leaving me with 300 remaining solutions and a lonely yellow ‘E’. From here, my oft-used second guess, BOINK, slashed that down to just 17.
I was tempted to guess OTTER next but opted for OUTER because of the extra vowel (but otters are so cute) and that did the trick. The only possible word left was OVERT for the win!

Total wash today. 0 points for guessing in four and 0 for tying the Wordle Bot. C’est la vie!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word "overt" comes from Middle French, where it meant "open" and is derived from the Old French word "overt," which is the past participle of "ovrir" (to open). This Old French term traces back to Latin "aperīre," also meaning "to open." The transition to English included a change in usage from a purely physical sense of being "open" to more abstract senses like "public" or "manifest," which are common today.
