Audi Q7 Overview

In keeping with Audi’s fleet-wide trend for 2020, the Audi Q7 SUV received styling updates and new features, adding to this three-row, seven-seater’s established reputation for well-heeled creature comforts. Those features include the latest generation of the company’s two-touchscreen infotainment system and virtual cockpit digital instrument display, as well as new active safety features, including an emergency assist system that decelerates the vehicle if it detects an inactive driver.

But the Q7 also got a surprise powerplant boost for 2020, with a 335-horsepower 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged V6. Rated at 369 pound-feet of torque, the new engine beats the previous model by 44 pound-feet, and hits 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, giving this posh, feature-laden people mover a surprising burst of power to go with its responsive, all-wheel drive performance character. As a bonus, the Q7 has a tow rating of 7,700 pounds when equipped with the available tow package.

Trim Specifications

Audi’s dual-screen MMI touch response infotainment system and 12.1-inch virtual cockpit display come standard on all models, while the Premium Plus trim adds a 19-inch 3D surround sound system, and Prestige comes with a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen system, as well as a full-color heads-up display.

The Premium Plus and Prestige models are also available with 20-inch wheels with all-season tires or 21-inch Audi Sport wheels. Available chassis options include an adaptive air suspension and rear-wheel steering. Luxury and Black optic packages are also available, with Alcantara leather interiors and black exterior finishes, respectively.

Audi Q7 Generations

First Generation

2005 to 2015
Audi unveiled the first Q7 with quattro all-wheel drive and a choice between a 280-horsepower 3.6L V6 engine block or a 350-horsepower 4.2-liter V8. The SUV’s optional air suspension made the company’s quattro all-wheel drive system viable for off-road driving, and its comfortable, spacious, and feature-packed cabin made the Q7 a luxurious choice for extended drives. A facelift for the 2009 Q7 featured a redesigned front-end with new bumpers, lights and interior styling, as well as retuned versions of its existing powerplants.

Second Generation

2015 to 2019
Lighter and more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, the second-generation Q7 received relatively minor exterior changes, including redesigned lights and bumpers and a larger front grille. But the luxury SUV’s interior saw a more thorough, classed-up overhaul, with upgraded finishes, new seats, Audi’s newest MMI infotainment system, and additional soundproofing. A more recent facelift further tweaked the Q7’s styling, and though it’s Europe-only, the SQ7 TDI has offered a powerful V8 diesel powerplant since 2016. For the 2017 model year, the Audi Q7 received revised exterior styling with a larger grille and bolder wheel arches while the interior received a redesigned instrument panel, center stack and other tweaks.
