2024 Honda Prologue
Don’t let the CR-V-like proportions fool you; the Prologue is expected to fall right between Honda’s two midsize SUVs, the Passport and the Pilot, in terms of size. Honda

Honda has taken the wraps off of its first U.S.-bound electric vehicle, the long-awaited Prologue. Sales are scheduled to begin in 2024, and the compact crossover-shaped EV is a far more ambitious attempt at electrification than the earlier Clarity Electric or the diminutive European- and Japanese-market only Honda e supermini. It’ll also be very different to those vehicles in where it’s built and what vehicles it shares technology with.

Until Thursday, only brief sketches showed what to expect from the electric SUV Honda has co-developed with General Motors. Now we have a look and details at its size and where it sits on the Honda lineup.

‘Neo-Rugged’ Prologue

Honda calls its design “neo-rugged” with a panoramic roof, 21-inch wheels, all-wheel drive and a new front EV look that’s still distinctly Honda. It will be positioned above the CR-V (with the newest CR-V hybrid launching this month) and match the Passport in size. At 192 inches long overall, it’s actually about mid-way between the Passport and the three-row Pilot in size.

Much of the length comes from the lengthy 121.8-inch wheelbase, which is 8 inches longer than the 2023 CR-V; the Prologue is also approximately 5 inches wider than the upcoming 2023 CR-V, which measures 73.5 inches side to side. It will stand 64.7 inches tall. That stretched wheelbase and what Honda deems “generous interior” and “ample space” in back should match the Passport’s 39.6 inches of back seat legroom and 41.2 cubic-feet of cargo room behind the rear seats.

EV-Influenced Tech and Design

While initial renderings showed a blue-hued Prologue, the photos of the white prototype show off an exclusive launch color “North Shore Pearl”—a pearly white inspired by the scenery around California’s Lake Tahoe. The five-seat interior will feature a charcoal and light gray color. Unusually, a new Honda font adorns the glossy black panel between the taillights instead of the company’s traditional “H” logo.

Up front sit two displays: an 11-inch driver panel and a 11.3-inch infotainment screen. While we’re not always a fan of the increased number of screens and lack of physical controls in many new EVs, the setup doesn’t look that dissimilar to existing Honda user experience design.

Instead of Honda’s usual “H” logo on the back, the full name will, for the first time, be spelled out in a unique title case style. Beyond some exterior and interior visuals, Honda didn’t share more about its battery or electric powertrain. The Prologue is expected to have at least 350-mile range.

What’s different about this picture? Every other U.S.-model Honda since the 1990s has used the famous “H” logo, but now the brand name is spelled out in a brand-new font. Honda

How Much will the Prologue Cost? When will it be Available?

Looking at other Honda vehicles for pricing, especially its upcoming CR-V Hybrid, gives us some clues: the Passport starts under $40,000, while the CR-V is under $30,000. GM announced its Chevy Equinox EV, also an electric SUV, will start at $30,000. The Prologue is slated to be made in North America which could qualify it for new federal tax credits for clean vehicles, many of which were phased out this year.

The Prologue’s availability is also more clear now, with sales set to begin in 2024. The automaker is targeting 70,000 units sold in the first two years. Honda plans to develop additional EVs on its e:Architecture platform—also assembled in the U.S.—and sell those by 2026. A new series of “affordable EVs” co-developed with GM are set to debut by 2027.
