About Honda

Honda was founded in 1948 in Hamamatsu, Japan, by Soichiro Honda. Initially, the company made motorbikes (bicycles with small gas-powered motors), creating cheap, reliable transportation to get the Japanese on the road to recovery post-World War II. Five years later, Honda built its first motorcycle, the Honda Dream. By 1959, the Dream became the most popular motorcycle on the planet.

In 1963, Honda expanded into making automobiles for its home market. In the 1970s, the company began exporting cars to the U.S. It didn’t become a household name, though, until 1979, when Honda became the first Japanese car company to open a manufacturing facility in Marysville, Ohio, under the American Honda Motor Company banner. Motorcycles went into production immediately and automobiles in 1982.

Today, Honda has built 26.1 million cars and light trucks in the U.S. Its lineup provides a wide range of models including hybrids, electrics, fuel cells, sedans, coupes, SUVs and a minivan. It is also one of the most well-respected brands in the industry, and the company’s quality, innovation and reliability have made it one of the most sought-after car brands in the world. It’s significant car models, such as Accord and Civic, have occupied the leadership position in global sales for years now.
