A high pressure fuel pump could fail in a limited number of Jeep Wrangler off-road SUVs, Gladiator and Ram 1500 pickups.

As many as 60,413 SUVs and pickup trucks from the Stellantis brand including the  2021-2022 model year Gladiators, 2020-2022 Wranglers and Ram 1500s could have the problem that was detailed in a recall notice earlier this month. Only 1% of all potential vehicles are estimated to have the defect. Only vehicles built with a 3.0-liter diesel engine during a certain manufacturing period (different for each vehicle) are affected.

It is likely in more Ram pickups with 31,794 of the trucks recalled. It could affect up to 21,244 Jeep Wranglers and only 7,375 Gladiators.

With the fuel pump a key component for the engine to run smoothly and to keep debris from entering, the failing pump can disrupt the flow of fuel and cause the engine to stall and the car to stop suddenly and without warning. Noises may come from the fuel pump and an indicator light may turn on.

Anyone with a potentially affected vehicle can bring in the car to a dealership to have the high pressure fuel pump replaced and undergo an inspection to see if any other fuel system parts need to be replaced.

More than 200 warranty claims have been reported in connection with this issue since June 2020, but no deaths or accidents have been reported. This recall is separate from a Jeep Wrangler 4xe battery pack issue affecting only plug-in 2022 and 2023 Wranglers.
