$7.5 Million Waterfront Home Epitomizes Life On Florida’s Snell Isle

Following

The advantages of a waterfront location vary with the property. On Snell Isle, an upscale community in St. Petersburg, Florida, the differences on Brightwaters Boulevard NE change with the part of the street one lives on.

Houses along the Snell Harbor side provide deep water mooring, natural protection from storms and city light views of downtown. The Tampa Bay side has open-water vistas and distant views of the landmark Sunshine Skyway Bridge and the St. Pete Pier.

“Usually the desired side is based on what type of boat you have,” says Coastal Properties Group’s Rhonda Sanderford, who considers the street a destination address.

“You have great choices, whichever side you choose,” she says. “It is one of the most exclusive addresses in south Pinellas County.” Snell Isle home prices range from $500,000 to $15 million with buyers including first-timers and families who have lived there several generations and move around as their lives change.

It’s not unusual for the neighbors to include executives and players with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Lighting as well as financial giants from the business world, according to Marian Yon Maguire, also with Coastal Properties Group. “This area has attracted many influential families.”

The isle’s original homes, built in the 1920s, were strongly influenced by the romantic architecture of Italy and Spain—think balconies, balustrades, winding staircases and towers. A renaissance of new builds sprung up among the original Mediterranean houses about 20 years ago, Yon Maguire says.

Among those newer homes is a 2009 modern Mediterranean at 1221 Brightwaters Boulevard NE that Sanderford and Yon Maguire have listed at $7.5 million.

The waterfront property, complete with a private boat dock and two attached two-car garages, encompasses a one-third-acre on a protected inlet.

Steps off the paver driveway lead up to a double-door entry that opens to a great room with water views. Decorative molding and an arched entryway add elegance to the formal dining room.

Next to the great room is the center island kitchen with enough space for multiple cooks and informal family gatherings. It includes a walk-in pantry and breakfast room.

A family room, office with built-ins and guest suite are also on the first floor.

Upstairs are the primary suite, a den with a wet bar, water-view balcony and additional bedrooms for a total of five bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms throughout the more than 5,000 square feet of living space.

Outdoor amenities include a swimming pool with a tiled spa and kitchen with a fireplace.

Two private schools are within walking distance on Snell Isle, which is home to the Vinoy Resort & Golf Club as well as a yacht club. Reachable on foot or by golf cart is the St. Petersburg waterfront. White sand beaches are about a 10- to 15-minute drive away.

Tampa International Airport is 19 miles from the property.
