Lexus GX Overview
The Lexus GX 460 three-row SUV occupies a unique place in the automotive stratosphere. The little brother to the top-line LX 570, the Toyota Prado-based Lexus GX 460 unapologetically trades interior space and fuel efficiency for old-school sturdiness and genuine off-road capability.
Now in its second generation, the GX460 offers standard equipment, including the Lexus Safety System+ suite of technologies (dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure, pre-collision with pedestrian alert, and more) as well a reasonably well-equipped interior with third-row seating. A 301-horsepower V8 mates with a six-speed automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel drive system with a two-speed transfer case. Versatile as it is, fuel economy is not the GX 460’s forte, as evidenced by its 15mpg city and 19mpg highway EPA fuel economy ratings.
While many of its competitors, including the BMW X5 and Audi Q5, continue to prioritize on-road refinement, it is comforting to know that the GX 460 remains true to its roots.
Trim Specifications
The base GX starts things off with 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, a power sunroof, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and Bluetooth connectivity and a nine-speaker audio system. The Premium trim adds standard navigation, heated front seats, and three-zone climate control as well as opening the option of second-row captain’s chairs. The Luxury trim spools up the accouterments with 19-inch, six-spoke wheels, an adaptive variable suspension for better ride on-road and off, a power-folding third-row and more.
The Off-Road package (transmission cooler, a fuel tank skid plate, crawl control speed control and updated cameras with multiple view options) is $1,570, and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio system is $1,145.
