Audi A5 Overview

Similar in size and features, the Audi A5 is a more sophisticated and sportier take on the A4 sedan. Whereas the A4 is available only as a four-door car, the A5 offers buyers a choice of three distinct body styles: a two-door coupe, a Cabriolet and a four-door Sportback hatchback. All three styles of the A5 are equipped with a turbocharged 261-horsepower four-cylinder engine tied to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Each is also available as a S5 performance model, powered by a larger twin-turbo 361-horsepower V6 matched with an eight-speed automatic. All variants of the A5 or S5 are standard equipped with all-wheel drive.

The interior features heated leather sport seats and luxurious finishes such as natural wood inlays, stainless steel door sills and ambient LED lighting throughout the cabin. S5 owners will find massaging S sport seats with pneumatic side bolsters for the driver and front passenger. A panoramic sunroof comes standard on all trims of the Coupes and Sportbacks. Behind the three-spoke steering wheel is a 7-inch digital instrument panel nestled between the gauges that displays vehicle information. A “virtual cockpit” with a 12.3-inch digital panel that displays Google Earth imagery is available for a more immersive driving experience that helps the driver anticipate upcoming turns. A 10.1-inch touchscreen center-mounted in the dashboard runs Audi’s new MIB 3 infotainment platform and provides haptic feedback for easier usability. The third-generation system enables occupants to use natural language rather than a complex menu tree to perform voice-activated commands and offers standard Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

The Coupe and Sportback seat five passengers and convertible offers seating for four. Rear occupants will benefit from the Sportback’s elongated roofline that increases headroom by almost an inch compared with the Coupe, but the sky’s the limit with the soft-top down on the Cabriolet. While no one buys a Coupe for its cargo carrying capabilities, its trunk offers an adequate 10.1 cubic-foot of space. The Sportback, with its elongated roofline, opens up to an impressive 21.8 cubic-foot truck. Both models can be ordered with 40/20/40 split rear seats to increase boot space. The Cabriolet with only two rear seats only fits 9.3 cubic-feet of gear. It’s retractable soft-top also consumes most of the usable floorspace making it hard to fit bulky luggage.

Trim Specifications

The base Premium trim comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights with dynamic turn signals, keyless start/stop, automatic high beams, three-zone climate control, heated front sport seats, a panoramic sunroof, smartphone integration with Google Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, lane departure warning, an integrated toll module and more. The base S5 models include upgraded LED headlights, exterior styling changes, quad exhaust outlets, 12-way adjustable sport seats with massage function and other minor changes. The Convenience Package ($1,800) adds SiriusXM All Access service (90-day trial subscription), blind spot monitoring, rear end collision sensing, rear cross traffic assist and vehicle-exit warning as well as power-adjustable, auto-dimming, heated exterior side mirrors. Upgrading to the Premium Plus trim includes the Convenience Package and adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go traffic assistance, active lane keeping assistance, the Virtual Cockpit 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and other improvements. S5 models receive paddle shifters and other minor changes. This trim also makes available navigation ($1,500), ventilated seats ($800), S-line interior package ($500) and the Black Optic appearance package ($1,300), which requires adding the sport suspension ($250). S5 models receive a wireless charger and signal booster and other details. Navigation is included in the top-of-the-line Prestige trim, and adds laser light headlights, head-up display, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, phone box with signal booster and wireless charger, the full suite of advanced driver assistance systems, such as street-sign recognition, and much, much more.
