Mercedes-Benz GLC Overview

Still in its first generation, the Mercedes-Benz GLC received a significant refresh for 2020 that introduces a new powertrain, electronics and exterior styling. The standard GLC SUV is powered by a new rear-wheel-drive 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine combined with a nine-speed automatic transmission that produces 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel-drive with five selectable drive modes and an off-road engineering package is available. It’s also comes as a plug-in hybrid—the GLC 350e—that pairs the 2.0-liter engine with a 90kW electric motor mated to a to a seven-speed automatic transmission for 315 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque as well as improved fuel efficiency (55 mpg in city driving and 57 mpg on the highway). The GLC Coupe uses the same engine and is available only with AWD.

For more power, a 3.0-liter V6 available in the AMG GLC 43 now delivers 385 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. A larger 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine that makes 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque powers the AMG GLC 63. The GLC Coupe also gets the AMG treatment. The AMG GLC 43 Coupe and AMG GLC 63 Coupe have the same engine and output as their AMG-tuned SUV counterparts. The AMG GLC 63 S Coupe is the most powerful of the bunch. It uses the V8 but delivers 34 more horsepower than the 63 for a total of 503.

The GLC’s interior features a 10.25-inch touchscreen that operates the new voice recognition MBUX system. Optional power-fold of the 40/20/40 splitting rear seat increases the cargo carrying capacity from 19.4 cubic-feet to 56.5 cubic-feet in the SUV, and from 17.6 cubic-feet to 49.4-cubic-feet in the coupe.

Trim Specifications

The base GLC 300 offers heated seats and the MBUX infotainment system, but many premium creature comforts like ventilated seats, sunroof and keyless entry are additional options. A package that adds advanced driver assistance safety features such as adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist costs $1,700, but also requires the multimedia package for $1,200. All-wheel-drive is available for $2,000, and is included with the AMG GLC 43, which adds performance enhancements such as sport-tuned suspension and dynamic select drive modes as well as an AMG-specific grille, 20-inch wheels and 64-color ambient LED lighting. The AMG GLC 63 includes navigation and the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel display. The AMG GLC 63 S Coupe has more horsepower and other performance enhancements such as dynamic engine mounts.
