Porsche Panamera Overview

Now in its second generation, it’s safe to say the crowds have warmed to the Porsche Panamera performance sedan. When it debuted in 2009 and went into production in 2010, its styling and heft put off some traditional Porsche fans more accustomed to its comparatively light and lithe legacy models. A 2017 makeover moved the styling more in the direction of the iconic 911 and introduced the Sport Turismo variation that offers wagon or shooting-brake style aft quarters. Since then, it’s become a genuine contender and an attractive alternative to the standard fare of the other big three German luxury manufacturers.

If its true Teutonic soul you seek but the usual players leave you a little cold or pressed for space, the Porsche Panamera should be on your shortlist of potential choices.

Trim Specifications

The Panamera Sport Turismo offers a wagon-esque take on the formula, and the Panamera Executive’s longer wheelbase provides more rear-seat legroom for executives and VIPs. It’s powerful V8, Turbo, and Hybrid options in conjunction with its modern interior and Porsche-engineered chassis make it a unique experience in the segment. The 10 Years edition offers a curated selection of comfort, chassis and styling tweaks. Available in a truly overwhelming number trims and powertrain configurations, the Panamera rewards those willing to take the time with a truly personalized vehicle.

To narrow the choices we’ve broken down the essential powertrain options here. A turbocharged 330-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 for the base, Panamera 4, Panamera 4 Sport Turismo and Panamera 4 Executive. A twin-turbo 330-horsepower 2.9-liter resides in the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid,  4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo. (The hybrid versions have a combined output of 516 horsepower). That same basic engine tuned 440-horsepower motivates the Panamera 4S and 4S Sport Turismo and 4S Executive. The Panamera Turbo trims (Panamera Turbo, Turbo Sport Turismo,  Turbo Executive,  Turbo S E-Hybrid, Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo and Turbo S E-Hybrid Exec) rely on a twin-turbocharged  550-horsepower, 4.0-liter V8. The hybrid versions produce a combined output of 680 horsepower.  All engines get their power to the road through a new eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive.

Porsche Panamera Generations

First Generation

2010-2016
Although the first-generation Panamera’s design was controversial, there’s no doubting it made up for it in performance. On the heavier side at approximately 4,000-pounds its range of naturally aspirated, turbocharged, supercharged and hybrid-assisted V6 and V8 engines made sure it could get out of its own way. The Panamera enabled Porsche to take the fight to the other German luxury brands in a way it had never done before. As of next year, the Panamera will be ten years old and soon after moving into its third generation.

Second Generation

2017-present
Unveiled in 2017, the latest Panamera is available in either the original liftback sedan format or the shooting brake Sport Turismo variation with a more prominent rear cargo area. Available in V6, V8 and hybrid versions of each, the Panamera offers nearly limitless options for those who love to pore over build sheets.
