Porsche Taycan Overview

Few cars in Porsche’s long, storied history can claim to be a monumental milestone. The 911 is obvious, the Cayenne deserves a spot as the brand’s first SUV, and now the Taycan joins the party. As Porsche’s first-ever all-electric vehicle, the Taycan is ushering in a new era for the Stuttgart-based manufacturer with an increasingly familiar electric woosh as a soundtrack.

Keep in mind, for all that silence the Taycan still produces mountains of power from its pair of electric motors—750 horsepower in its top Turbo S trim. Yes, Porsche has officially and unironically turned the “Turbo” moniker into a brand name, but it is easily overlooked as soon as you climb inside and experience the real-world cumulative effect of the spec sheet rather than just reading it on your screen.

Trim Specifications

Don’t let the “Turbo” nomenclature fool you, the Taycan is all-electric, all the way. The Taycan marks the first instance in which Porsche uses the Turbo label as trim level, but just like any other Porsche Turbo and Turbo S model, there’s no doubting the next-level performance that’s on tap. At launch, the Taycan was available in two all-wheel-drive flavors: the Taycan Turbo and Taycan Turbo S. The base Taycan 4S joined the lineup in April of 2020.

Utilizing a dual electric motor architecture the base 4S has 429 horsepower on tap (522 with launch control activated) or 482 horsepower (562 with launch control activated) when ordered with the Performance Battery Plus. The Taycan Turbo packs 616 horsepower (670 with launch control activated) while the Taycan Turbo S is rated at 616 horsepower (750 with launch control activated).

As is the Porsche way, the build sheet is extensive and the number of available options many; serious buyers will have no problem building their perfect Taycan.
