Porsche Macan Overview
The Macan is the newest member of the Porsche family, and it fills the compact SUV niche for Porsche brilliantly. Like all SUVs, the Macan makes some compromises here and there, but overall, it is 100 percent a Porsche, meaning it handles like a sportscar and wears Porsche’s design language beautifully. Introduced in 2014, the Macan was always meant to be a more practical, yet sportier version of the bigger Cayenne.
In 2019 there was a substantial update to the smallest Porsche SUV. Along with an overhauled chassis and a fresh redesign, the Macan also benefited from a refreshed interior. For an example of how efficiently Porsche carved interior space from the Macan’s comparatively tiny footprint, consider that with the rear seats folded, the Macan offers 52.9 cubic feet of cargo room to the Cayenne’s 60.3 cubic feet. If you have your eye on the Cayenne but can’t swing the asking price, the Macan is worthy of a look and then some.
Trim Specifications
Of all the vehicles Porsche produces, the Macan has the fewest trim levels in 2020, however, it is the newest member of the family, so there’s a good chance lineup will expand in the near future.
The base-level Macan comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four rated at 248 horsepower, a seven-speed PDK automatic transmission, and the usual features including 18-inch wheels, three-zone climate control, a 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10-speaker audio system.
The Macan S adds an even 100 horsepower for a total of 348 by way of its 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. In addition to the bump in horsepower, the S gets standard 19-inch wheels, six-piston front brake calipers (the base Macan uses four-piston units), a pair of twin exhaust tips and a few additional niceties.
The GTS gets a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 rated for 375 horsepower, 20-inch wheels, a standard adaptive air suspension, and more.
The Macan Turbo brings a solid 434 horsepower from its twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6, 20-inch wheels, Porsche’s coated rotors that help reduce brake dust and a Bose audio system.
