About Country Financial Homeowners Insurance

Started by a group of farmers in 1925, today Country Financial has more than 3,000 employees and 2,000 representatives. Country Financial is the 22nd largest home insurance company in the United States.

Country Financial’s homeowners insurance includes types of coverage that come standard in a homeowners policy:

  • Dwelling coverage pays to repair or replace your house and its attached structures, like a garage.
  • Other structures coverage pays to repair or replace detached structures on your property, like a shed.
  • Personal property coverage is for the theft or damage of personal items, including clothes, rugs, electronics and furniture.
  • Liability insurance is for lawsuits filed against you, such as a visitor who is injured on your property.
  • Additional living expenses coverage is for extra expenses when you can’t live at home due to damage covered by the policy, such as fire damage. Hotel bills and restaurant meals are among these possible additional living expenses.
  • Medical payments coverage pays for smaller medical bills—typically up to $5,000—of people accidentally hurt who blame you, not including household members, regardless of fault.

Country Financial sells several other types of home-related insurance including condo insurance, renters insurance, landlord insurance and mobile home insurance.

Need extra liability protection on your home insurance policy? Country Financial offers umbrella insurance that provides additional liability coverage on top of a home or auto insurance policy.

Policy add-ons available from Country Financial include:

  • Extended replacement cost up to 120% of your dwelling coverage limit if the cost to rebuild your house is higher than expected. Country Financial also offers an unlimited additional replacement cost option. This extra coverage is valuable to have in case local construction costs spike unexpectedly.
  • Sump pump and sewer back-up protection helps pay for water damages when a sewer backs up or a sump pump overflows.
  • Identity theft expense coverage will pay as much as $25,000 in expenses to help you recover from identity theft.

Country Financial has a very low complaint ratio compared to other large home insurance companies. A low complaint level can be a strong indicator of high customer satisfaction.

Methodology

To find the best home insurance we scored companies based on these factors:

  • Home insurance rates (50% of score): Based on average rates for each insurance company for homes with dwelling coverage of $200,000, $350,000, $500,000 and $750,000.
  • Complaints (20% weight): Based on complaints about home insurance that were upheld by state insurance departments. Source: National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
  • Availability of extended and/or guaranteed replacement cost coverage (20% of score): Extra dwelling coverage is valuable in the event of large disasters, when construction materials and labor costs tend to spike. We gave points to companies that offer either extended or guaranteed replacement cost coverage. Source: Forbes Advisor research.
  • Banned dog lists (10% of score): Banned dog breed lists can make homeowners ineligible for coverage. (A company’s banned dog list might not be applicable in all states.) While any homeowners insurance company could potentially ban any dog with a biting history, not all put a ban on specific breeds. Source: Forbes Advisor research.
