Lexus UX Overview

The Lexus UX is the youngest and smallest of Lexus’s six SUVs, introduced for the 2019 model year. The least expensive Lexus model, the UX targets younger, urban-dwelling buyers that may be eco-conscious or simply need a car with a small footprint, but desire the comfort and satisfaction of driving a luxury-branded vehicle.

Despite the UX’s entry-level positioning, however, compromise is hard to find inside; to the contrary, things appear quite well appointed. It’s kind of slow, however, even in F-Sport form, which brings several ostensible handling and visual enhancements.

The four-cylinder engine in every front-wheel-drive UX 200 makes a skimpy 169 horsepower. The upside is it’s 34mpg combined EPA fuel-economy estimate.

The UX Hybrid models don’t use a traditional all-wheel drive system, but instead use a 141-horsepower engine to drive the front wheels and a compact electric motor for the rear wheels, thus creating a hybrid, all-wheel drive utility vehicle with a total of 181 horsepower. Lexus said, “Let this be called ‘UX 250h!” And it was good. Really. As a bonus, the hybrid all-wheel drive UX models get even better fuel economy, returning a 39mpg combined EPA fuel-economy estimate.

Trim Specifications

Upgrading any UX200 trim to a corresponding all-wheel drive UX250h hybrid is a reasonable $2,050 upcharge. Base UX 200 and UX 250h come decently equipped, with dual-zone automatic climate control, a high-resolution infotainment screen with a remote interface, and faux leather upholstery.

F-Sport models add sport seats, unique suspension tuning, and paddle shifters as well as numerous sporty styling enhancements. Luxury models feature come with navigation, an upgraded sound system with eight speakers, a moonroof, a power liftgate with kick sensor and more.
