Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card Introduction

The Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* is a premium card aimed at people who frequently travel with Qatar Airways. Like many premium travel credit cards, it carries a high annual fee but offers travel perks such as complimentary bags, priority boarding and an opportunity to earn higher status with Qatar Airways’ loyalty program, Privilege Club.

However, despite the perks, the annual fee might not be worth paying. The card has relatively poor rewards categories, only offering elevated earning rates for purchases on Qatar Airways flights and at restaurants. Also, like other airline cards, your perks only apply when flying with Qatar Airways. Given the airline’s relatively small footprint in the US, flying from just a dozen cities, the card may not appeal to the majority of travelers.

Quick Facts

  • $499 annual fee
  • Earn 5 Avios per dollar on Qatar Airways purchases, 3 Avios per dollar on restaurants, 1 Avios per dollar on all other purchases and 2 Qpoints for every $1,500 spent in purchases
  • Earn 25,000 bonus Avios after the first transaction and an additional 25,000 bonus Avios plus 150 Qpoints after spending $5,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of account opening

What Is the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card Best For?

The Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* is best for those who fly on Qatar Airways multiple times each year. Benefits like an increased baggage allowance, priority access to standby and check-in, and the chance to earn more Avios for each flight can add up quickly if you’re flying with the airline on a regular basis. However, if you’re taking a one-time trip on Qatar Airways or only plan to fly with the airline once or twice every year or two, you aren’t likely to get more value from the card than the cost of its annual fee.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card Rewards

Earning Rewards

The Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* lets cardholders earn rewards in the form of Avios, Qatar Airway’s rewards currency. The earning rate is relatively simple, with cardholders receiving 5 Avios per dollar on Qatar Airways purchases, 3 Avios per dollar on restaurants, 1 Avios per dollar on all other purchases and 2 Qpoints for every $1,500 spent in purchases.

With limited bonus categories, it’s relatively easy to remember where to use the card to get the most value out of it. However, it’s also unlikely that you’ll be using it frequently if you carry other cards in your wallet.

Redeeming Rewards

A major perk of the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* is that the currency it rewards, Avios, is quite flexible. Of course, one of the main ways to redeem the rewards you earn is for flights with Qatar Airways. You can pay for flights entirely with Avios or a mix of Avios and cash.

Even if the airline doesn’t have a flight you’d like to take, you may still be able to use your rewards. Avios is also the reward currency used by British Airways, Ibera and Aer Lingus. And points can be combined between these carriers. Furthermore, Qatar Airways is part of the Oneworld Alliance, a group of airlines that includes major players including:

  • American Airlines
  • British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Japan Airlines

You can redeem Avios for flights on these, or Qatar Airways’ partner airlines outside the Oneworld alliance.

Other redemption options include spending Avios at the Qatar duty-free store, booking flight and hotel vacation packages, touring holidays and rental cars.

Rewards Potential

To determine the rewards potential for the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card*, we considered the amount an average household might spend each year. Forbes Advisor uses data from multiple government agencies to determine typical income and spending across categories. We base our sample spending on the 70th percentile of wage earners, who bring in $118,438 each year. We estimate this household to have $39,337 in credit card spending annually.

How the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card Stacks Up

Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* vs. Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®*

The Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* focuses on travelers loyal to Qatar Airways. Unless you’re traveling internationally on a regular basis, you might struggle to find flights that fit your needs.

The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®* is another premium travel card, but it’s targeted at fans of American Airlines. Like the Qatar Airways card, it charges a hefty annual fee—$595. In exchange for that fee, you get premium travel perks such as free checked bags, a credit for TSA PreCheck® or Global Entry, an Admirals Club membership with access to a number of airport lounges and priority check-in and boarding on American Airlines flights.

If you’re looking for a premium travel card that offers more domestic flight options, the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®* might be a better fit.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* vs. Chase Sapphire Reserve®

While the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* focuses on a single airline, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® is a travel card that offers far more flexibility.

Like the Qatar Airways card, the Sapphire Reserve comes with premium travel benefits, like airport lounge access, a $300 annual travel credit and a credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees. However, rather than awarding Avios, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® offers Chase Ultimate Rewards® points. These points are much more flexible than a reward currency tied to a specific airline.

Chase offers several ways to redeem your points. You can spend them at a rate of 1.5 cents per point when using them to book travel through Chase Travel℠. You can also transfer them at a 1:1 ratio to Chase’s travel partners, such as British Airways, Air France-KLM, JetBlue, Southwest, United, IHG One Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy and World of Hyatt.

While you won’t get airline-specific benefits, like priority check-in and boarding, you might find this card appealing if you aren’t loyal to a single airline or hotel and value more ways to use your points. The Sapphire Reserve does include a vast airport lounge benefit including the luxurious Sapphire Lounge by The Club locations.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* vs. The Platinum Card® from American Express

The Platinum Card® from American Express (terms apply, see rates & fees) is another travel rewards card that doesn’t tie you to a specific airline. Though it carries a higher annual fee than the Qatar Airways Privilege Club Visa Infinite Credit Card* at $695, the variety of credits and perks, such as airport lounge access, may make it appealing to people who want more from their rewards.

Cardholders get the following credits each year:

  • Up to $200 on select prepaid hotel bookings through American Express Travel
  • Up to $240 ($20 per month) for digital entertainment such as Disney+, The New York Times, Peacock or The Wall Street Journal (enrollment required)
  • Up to $155 for a Walmart+ monthly membership
  • Up to $200 in Uber Cash—$15 each month, $35 in December
  • Up to $200 for fee credits on a selected, qualifying airline
  • Up to $100 at Saks—$50 per 6 months (enrollment required)
  • Up to $300 for an Equinox membership (enrollment required)
  • Up to $189 for a CLEAR® Plus membership

In addition to those credits, cardholders earn 5 Membership Rewards Points per dollar for flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel on up to $500,000 per calendar year, 5 points per dollar on prepaid hotels booked with American Express Travel and 1 point per dollar on other eligible purchases. You can redeem points for travel through American Express or transfer the points to partners such as British Airways, Delta, Hilton, JetBlue, and Qatar Airways.

If you fly Qatar Airways on occasion, want a more flexible travel card that can help you earn Qatar Airways rewards and can make use of the various fee credits and perks, the Amex Platinum is a strong choice.
