Since 2020, Chase and DoorDash have partnered to provide DoorDash benefits to many Chase cardmembers. The DoorDash benefit enhances the value of the Chase cards by giving cardmembers a complimentary DoorDash DashPass for a specified time period.

Recently, the benefit has been extended to the end of 2024—though the exact benefit varies depending on which card you have. In some cases, it can be activated so that the benefit terminates at the end of 2025.

What Is DoorDash?

DoorDash is an on-demand delivery service app for local restaurants, grocery, convenience and other retail stores. DoorDash’s broad range of choices includes stores such as Aldi, Winn-Dixie, Target, Office Depot, Walgreens and PetSmart. Customers can also use DoorDash for pick-up orders.

DoorDash acquired food delivery service Caviar in 2019 and fortunately, the Chase benefit applies to Caviar as well. Caviar is solely a food delivery service and tends to feature higher-end local restaurants as opposed to the broader price range and choices seen on DoorDash. Users can sign into either the DoorDash or Caviar app to access their Chase DoorDash benefits once they’re set up.

What Is The DoorDash DashPass?

The DashPass is a subscription membership that provides the following money-saving benefits:

  • $0 delivery fees and reduced services fee on all eligible orders that meet the subtotal minimum as shown in the app (usually $12)
  • 5% back in DoorDash credits and no service fees on eligible pickup orders
  • $0 delivery fees and reduced services fee on eligible grocery, convenience and other orders that meet the subtotal minimum as shown in the app (usually $25)
  • Exclusive offers from select merchants
  • No order cancellation fees

Currently, DoorDash sells the DashPass for $9.99 per month or $96 per year with the annual plan and it is only available in the U.S. and Canada.

If you regularly use a food delivery app, the savings and credits from DashPass can add up quickly.

DoorDash Benefits for the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred and J.P. Morgan Reserve Cards

Chase Sapphire Reserve®, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and J.P. Morgan® cardmembers receive at least a free year of DashPass. The earliest expiration date will be one year after the activation date. So if you activate your benefit on Dec. 31, 2024, it will expire on Dec. 31, 2025.

The benefit applies to primary cardmembers and all authorized users. The activation date for all users is determined by the first enrollment in the DoorDash benefit which results in the same expiration date for the primary cardmember and authorized users. This means if the primary cardmember signs up first and then an authorized user signs up two months later, the expiry date for both accounts will be 12 months after the first signup.

Sapphire Reserve and J.P. Morgan Reserve cardholders receive an additional benefit in that each enrolled DoorDash account will receive a $5 credit each month until Dec. 31, 2024. Unused credits can be rolled forward a maximum of two months up to $15 total.

DoorDash Benefits for Chase Freedom

If you hold a card from the Chase Freedom family, you are eligible for three free months of DashPass, followed by nine months of DashPass at a 50% discount off the monthly rate, currently $9.99.

The DashPass membership must be activated by Dec. 31, 2024 to receive the benefit.

Either the primary cardmember or an authorized user can activate the benefit, but the benefit is only available to one cardmember per credit card at a time. That means if the primary cardmember has already activated the DoorDash benefit, it will not be available to any of the authorized users on the account, unless the primary unenrolls from the benefit. At that time, an authorized user can use the DoorDash benefit, but the expiry of the benefit will be calculated based on the date of the initial enrollment.

This benefit applies to the following cards:

DoorDash Benefits for Chase Co-Branded Cards

Most Chase co-branded cardholders and their authorized users are eligible for 12 months of free DashPass membership, provided that the membership is activated by Dec. 31, 2024. The expiry date is 12 months after the first account enrollment. That means if the authorized user signs up first and then the primary cardmember signs up two months later, the expiry date for both accounts will be 12 months after the first sign-up. After the complimentary membership ends, members are automatically enrolled into a DashPass membership at the regular rate which currently is $9.99 per month.

Eligible Chase co-brand cards include:

Notably excluded are the Amazon Prime Visa and the Instacart Mastercard®.

How To Activate Your Chase DoorDash Benefits

If you aren’t an existing DoorDash subscriber, the first step is to download the app (available for both iPhone and Android) and set up your account. To activate the benefit, both new and existing subscribers must enter their eligible Chase card as the default payment method.

Once you’ve added your card, you’ll get a screen to activate your free DashPass. The length of the free subscription depends on which Chase card you’re using to sign up.

You can also sign up for the Chase DoorDash benefit through the Caviar app. Use the same login and password information to access benefits on DoorDash.

How To Use Your Chase DoorDash DashPass Benefit

Not all orders are eligible for DashPass so be sure to double check before you submit your order. When choosing a restaurant, look for the green DashPass symbol for qualifying restaurants, grocery or convenience stores.

Check that your eligible Chase card is selected for payment to receive DashPass benefits and that your order exceeds the subtotal minimum as specified in the app.

Bottom Line

The Chase DoorDash benefit is potentially valuable for someone who frequently uses food delivery services. Even if ordering from restaurants is not in your routine, the DashPass can be used for grocery, retail and convenience stores and may come in handy when you don’t have time to run out for an item yourself.
