The Ultimate Guide To IHG Milestone Rewards

As an IHG One Rewards member, you earn points with every qualifying stay. With IHG Milestone Rewards, you get even more.

After reaching 20 nights, you can choose your first extra bonus reward. Every 10 nights thereafter, you’ll get a new Milestone Reward. The reward tiers cap out at 100 nights.

There are four types of Milestone Rewards that become available at each level:

Bonus Points

This reward ranges between 5,000 and 10,000 points depending on your milestone level. The points are credited instantly to your account and are available for redemption immediately.

Food and Beverage Rewards

Each food and beverage reward is worth $20 at participating IHG hotels. Depending on your Milestone Reward you’ll earn either two food and beverage rewards (worth $40) or five food and beverage rewards (worth $100). Food and beverage rewards expire 12 months following your milestone selection.

Confirmable Suite Upgrades

Depending on your tier level you can earn either one or two confirmable upgrades on qualifying stays. These can be used on entry-level suites or premium rooms where a suite isn’t available, and are valid for up to five nights on a single reservation. Suite upgrades are good for 12 months from the time of choosing your Milestone Reward.

Annual Lounge Membership

The lounge membership gives you and a guest exclusive club lounge access during your stay at all participating hotels. Once you choose the reward, it’s valid for the rest of the current year and an additional 12 months after. There’s no limit to the number of times you can use the annual club membership.

Earning IHG Milestone Rewards is as easy as staying at IHG properties. The rewards start at 20 nights and you’ll accrue a new reward at every 10 additional nights.

Note that the “two confirmable suite upgrades” only count as one Milestone Award, but you can’t choose this reward twice to get four upgrades.

Choosing your IHG Milestone Rewards is as simple as logging into the IHG app and checking your elite status progress. Once you log in, the first option that’s presented to you is the Milestone Rewards. After clicking on rewards, you’ll see each of the levels and your available options.

If you’re using the website, head to your profile by clicking your name and point balance in the top right of the homepage. Once there, you’ll see “Milestone Rewards” on the right-hand side under “Overview.”

Food and Beverage Rewards

Redeeming food and beverage rewards requires a little more legwork but is relatively straight forward.

Each reward is valued up to $20, so the value of the Milestone Reward is either $40 or $100, depending on the level.

In order to use this reward, you’ll need to charge the food and beverage purchases to your room during your stay. Then, from inside the IHG app, you can redeem the reward from your IHG Wallet.

You’ll be asked to confirm your hotel and room number. Once the reward is applied, you should see the credit on your hotel bill.

Each reward can be applied to multiple food and/or beverage purchases, so if your first purchase is under $20 during you stay, you can stack them for larger redemptions. All vouchers can only be redeemed once.

The rewards can be redeemed at the hotel restaurant, markets, pantries and cupboards, through in-room dining,  or for minibar items. However, you can’t use your reward benefit on vending machines, third-party food delivery, restaurants that will not charge to a guest room bill, gift shops and taxes associated with minibar charges.

Note that IHG excludes the following properties from food and beverage rewards redemptions:

• Holiday Inn Club Vacations
• InterContinental Alliance Resorts hotels
• IHG Army Hotels

Confirmable Suite Upgrades

Redeeming your suite upgrades involves calling IHG customer care and asking for a room upgrade anytime between 14 days and 24 hours prior to check in.

Choose your hotel and length of your stay. If an entry-level suite is not available when making the upgrade, a premium room will be offered instead. Each upgrade certificate is valid for up to five nights total, so if you have a longer stay you’ll need multiple certificates. The best and easiest way to make sure you’re using a rate that will work with your certificates is to book with the Best Flex Rate.

Your upgrade will appear in your IHG One Rewards wallet and once you click “redeem” you’ll be shown the phone number for customer care and the upgrade will be confirmed by the representative on the phone.

Confirmable suite upgrades are not available at all IHG properties, so call ahead while in the planning process.

Annual Lounge Membership

The lounge membership will also appear in your rewards wallet and will be linked to your IHG One Rewards account.

If for whatever reason the hotel doesn’t recognize your lounge membership at check-in, open your app and show your reward in order to receive entry to the club lounge. The lounge access will be added to your room key allowing you seamless entry or, if not available, other instructions will be provided.

Note that not every IHG property has a lounge. Also, the annual lounge membership strictly provides access to the lounge itself. It does not include extra Club REGENT or Club InterContinental amenities or services that may be offered.

While your individual valuation may vary, the most concrete redemption value comes in the form of the food and beverage rewards. Being that each reward is valued at $20, you’ll receive either $40 or $100 in value from each of those rewards.

The Club Lounge access could vary by property, but the standard amenities are likely to make this option well worth choosing. Club Lounges typically offer breakfast during the morning, afternoon snacks and an evening happy hour. Lounges will also typically be open during the day for all day refreshments such as water, soda, juice and coffee, meaning you won’t have to spend money elsewhere for these refreshments.

If you’re booking a room using the best flex rate and see that there is a suite available, look at the pricing difference between your base room and the entry-level suite. Depending on the property, this could save you quite a bit of additional expense and give you room to stretch out for your stay.

If you don’t see yourself eating at the on-property restaurant, then the bonus points might be a good option for you. The lower Milestone Rewards offer 5,000 points while the higher Milestone Rewards net you 10,000 points.

Forbes values IHG points at 0.7 cents each, meaning that these levels are worth $35 to $70 each time you hit another 10 nights.

IHG Milestone Rewards are a valuable option to snag extra benefits on your quest to earn elite status. If you stay 100 nights at IHG properties you’ll have the chance to earn nearly a dozen rewards ranging from bonus points to lounge access.
