Despite being billed as a travel rewards credit card, the USAA Eagle Navigator™ Credit Card has fallen just short of other cards in this category over the years because it has lacked the one thing most offer: a welcome bonus. But USAA is upping its travel game and offering an introductory bonus for new cardholders.

The USAA Eagle Navigator™ Credit Card now offers the chance to earn 30,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on qualifying purchases within 90 days of account opening. That’s a $300 value if points are redeemed through the USAA Rewards Center.

USAA Eagle Navigator Credit Card Benefits

The Eagle Navigator, which has a $95 annual fee, is already a solid rewards card, earning 3 points per dollar spent on qualifying travel purchases including flights, vacation rentals and hotels and 2 points on everyday purchases including gas, dining, groceries and more.

Cardholders also earn 10,000 bonus points every year after booking an eligible hotel stay or rental car through its rewards center. Combined with the new welcome bonus, cardholders can pick up 40,000 bonus points—equal to $400 worth of travel—in their first year.

The Eagle Navigator also comes with some excellent travel perks like trip cancellation and interruption coverage, no foreign transaction fees, an auto rental collision damage waiver, travel accident insurance and baggage delay reimbursement. You also get up to $100 in Global Entry® or TSA PreCheck® statement credits every four years.

Few travel rewards cards offer cellphone insurance, but the USAA Eagle Navigator™ Credit Card is one of them. When you pay your monthly cellphone bill with your card, you can be reimbursed up to $500 if your phone is stolen or damaged. The card also comes with purchase security, extended warranty protection and concierge services that provide 24/7 access to help with arranging travel or event tickets.

Like all of its credit card products, the USAA Eagle Navigator™ Credit Card is for USAA members only. If you’re a current or former member of the military or a spouse or child of a current or former member, you can join USAA.

How Does the USAA Eagle Navigator Welcome Bonus Compare?

Earning 30,000 points for making $3,000 in purchases in three months might sound like a great deal, but how does it compare to other cards with moderate annual fees?
