The Government of India introduced the PM Kisan scheme from Dec. 2018 to facilitate an income support of INR 6,000 every year to the families of land holding farmers. The socio-economic empowerment scheme, referred to as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, comes with other center-funded benefits to help farmers make ends meet.

There are, however, official and legal formalities that have to be followed by farmers willing to avail benefits of the PM Kisan scheme. Here are its prospects.

The country’s state governments and union territory administrations are responsible to extend the benefits of the PM Kisan scheme to all landholding farmers’ families having cultivable land. 

Who should apply?

Farming families consist of husband, wife and children who have a cultivable land as per the land records system of concerned states and union territories (UTs).

Who is PM Kisan beneficiary?

  • The fund up to INR 6,000 is guaranteed to eligible farming families in three equal installments, namely period one from Apr to Jul, period two from Aug to Nov, and period three from Dec to March.
  • The fund is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account.

What are other benefits under PM Kisan?

  • PM Kisan Mandhan Yojana: Farmers have the option to get coverage under the PM Kisan Mandhan Yojana during the registration process of the PM Kisan scheme. This old-age protection and social security scheme guarantees small and marginal farmers (SMF) above 60 years of age to receive a monthly pension up to INR 3,000 per month. Such applicants (18 to 40 years) will have to make a monthly contribution of INR 55 to INR 200 per month. 
  • PM Kisan Credit Card: The PM Kisan Credit Cards have now been linked to the PM Kisan scheme for farmers to avail of loan up to INR 3 lakh at low bank interest rates. Read more about the Kisan Credit Card (KCC).

Who is not eligible for PM Kisan?

  • Institutional land holders; holders of constitutional posts; employees of central, state, PSEs and autonomous institutions; pensioners whose monthly pension is not more than INR 10,0000 (excluding multi-tasking staff, and Group D employees).
  • Doctors, engineers, CA, lawyers, architects registered with professional bodies; and all persons who paid have income tax in the last assessment year.

PM Kisan Online Registration Of New Farmers

The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW), has put in place an online portal, www.pmkisan.gov.in as well as its mobile application, to allow farmers to avail of PM Kisan benefits after completion of registration process. The beneficiary can also visit the nearest common service center (CSC), and seek assistance to complete digitally-enabled tasks like online registration of PM Kisan.

Check Application Status

New farmers can check their PM Kisan application status on PM Kisan’s official website by accessing their account with a registered mobile number. Farmers can also visit the nearest common service center (CSC), and seek assistance to know their application status.

Check PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana Beneficiary Status Online

The DAC&FW has put in place an online mechanism for members to access their PM Kisan account to know their beneficiary status and other details. PM Kisan online portal, www.pmkisan.gov.in as well as its mobile application, allows members to view their PM Kisan account details and financial statement, containing history of transactions and entries of amounts transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account.

  • Visit PM Kisan official website/app
  • Click “Beneficiary Status” under “Farmers Corner”
  • Log in with (registered) mobile number, or PM Kisan registration number
  • View your PM account details, PFMS status, Aadhar status, payment mode, installment status, installment credit date, etc.

Note: Many consumers of the PM Kisan scheme using its online portal and mobile application have reported facing technical glitches while trying to log in to their account. While some of these issues can be fixed online, the beneficiary can always visit the nearest common service center (CSC), and seek assistance to complete digitally-enabled tasks like registration, view beneficiary status, and know the latest updates on PM Kisan as well as other government-led schemes.

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana Latest Updates

Since the inception of the PM Kisan scheme, the government has distributed more than INR 2 lakh crore to about 11.37 crore eligible farmers. The government is currently releasing funds under the twelfth installment to as many 12 crore beneficiaries of the PM Kisan scheme.
