How We Make Money

Our work, which is always available to our readers free of charge, is funded mainly from three sources of income:

Advertisements

We provide companies with advertising or sponsorship space for their products and brands. The compensation we receive affects how and where the ads appear on the site (as detailed below). Sponsored ads will always be separate from editorial content, and do not in any way affect the nature of our content, the spokespeople we interview, the commissioning of content, nor our product reviews or our ‘pick of the best’ stories. This means that our editorial reviews, stories, explainers, and rankings—indeed all editorial content on our site—is entirely independent of advertising. In our product reviews and rankings, we ensure that we explain our methodology so readers can see the logic underpinning our conclusions.

Affiliate links

Our editorial team may review, and then sometimes rank, specific financial products or product providers, after undertaking appropriate research. Some product providers (known as ‘Featured Partners’, as described below) may be linked to in the text of our stories. Ads from Featured Partners may appear on the site in the form of ‘affiliate links’ in three formats:

  • A display advertisement labelled ‘featured partner’, which links to an advertiser’s website
  • A text-based link, in which the name of a product is linked within the body of the story. This link takes the reader to the advertiser’s website.
  • A link from within our ‘Best Of’ tables list, in which the word ‘Learn More’ is linked to the advertiser’s website.

By clicking on one of these affiliate links, the reader will be taken to the product provider’s site, and we will usually be compensated by the product provider on the basis of the reader accessing the product provider’s site. For example, there may be affiliate links to sponsored investment platforms, and if the reader registers with the platform and makes an investment through that platform, we may receive a fixed commission. Compensation for affiliate links does not affect our journalists’ recommendations. 

Featured Partners

Companies with whom we have entered into an advertising or sponsorship relationship are referred to as ‘Featured Partners’. As described above, ads from Featured Partners appear on the site as ‘affiliate links’, which if clicked will take the reader to the site of the Featured Partner in question, and if the reader takes a particular action on that site, we may receive compensation or a fixed commission. We are not remunerated for merely displaying ads from Featured Partners, nor are we paid if the consumer clicks through to the site but does not take further action. The compensation we receive varies from one advertiser, or sponsor, to the next and affects the prominence of how and where the ads appear on the site. As detailed above, sponsored ads from Featured Partners will always be separate from editorial content, and do not affect the nature of that content. All editorial content on our site is entirely independent of advertising, and the journalists on the editorial team at Forbes Advisor Australia are independent and objective.

With the exception of receiving income in the manner explained above, Forbes Advisor Australia receives no remuneration from, and does not have any other interest in, a reader acquiring a financial product from, or acting on any financial product advice provided by, a product provider linked to in the text or display ad of our stories.
