About Pets On Me Pet Insurance

Pets On Me is an Australian pet services and insurance company, established in New South Wales in 2007. The company now serves a member-base of more than 52,000 pet owners, and has won many awards throughout the years for its services.

When choosing Pets On Me as a pet insurance provider, customers have the choice between three levels of cover. In order of coverage, these are: Pets On Me’s accident plan, classic plan, and deluxe plan.

To compare pet insurance policies throughout Australia, Forbes Advisor focused on the most comprehensive offerings from providers. Therefore, for this review, we will analyse the Pets On Me deluxe plan.

What Type of Pets Does Pets On Me Cover?

Pets On Me’s three cover options are only available for cats and dogs. Its three plans are also available for puppies, too. However, there is no option for exotic pets.

What’s Covered In The Pets On Me Deluxe Plan?

Pet owners who take out the Pets On Me deluxe plan for pet insurance are provided with a 100% reimbursement rate for veterinary bills, which is a higher percentage than most of the other pet insurance providers Forbes Advisor compared.

Its maximum annual claim limit, however, is on par with the standard of the Australian pet insurance industry: being $15,000 per year. Additionally, the provider does not offer customers a GapOnly service–which is where policyholders are only required to pay the excess. Instead, those with Pets On Me pet insurance are required to pay upfront and claim the cost back.

Pets On Me, like many other providers, also doesn’t automatically include routine care within its Deluxe Plan. It does, however, offer a wellness add-on that covers some routine care services such as vaccinations, microchipping and more.

Further details of the inclusions and the exclusions of the Pets On Me Deluxe Pet Insurance Plan are outlined below.

Is Spaying and Neutering Covered?

Pets On Me considers spaying and neutering (desexing) to be a part of routine care which, as mentioned, is not automatically included in its Deluxe Plan; however, it is one of the services that is listed in its optional wellness add-on.

What About Older Pets?

Pets On Me does not cover older pets. Its policies, including the Deluxe Plan, only covers pets under nine years. Cover can start for pets over the age of six weeks.

Is there a Sub-Limit for Tick Paralysis?

There is no sub-limit for tick paralysis. Instead, Pets On Me includes tick paralysis costs in its annual cover limit.

Is Dental Covered?

Yes, dental is covered with the Pets On Me Deluxe Plan. The annual limit is $500, and it is only available after a six-month wait period.

Excess Options

Pets On Me gives its customers three choices of excess. By increasing the excess you would pay when making a claim, it lowers the cost of your annual premium. The three choices of excess with the Deluxe Plan are $100, $200 or $300.

How Long is the Waiting Period?

With the Deluxe Plan from Pets On Me, there is no waiting period when it comes to accidents. There are however other waiting periods, depending on the circumstances. These are:

  • 21 days for illness, poisoning, intervertebral disc disease, ingestion of a foreign object and third party liability;
  • 90 days for hereditary conditions, cruciate ligaments and patella luxation;
  • 120 days for use of the wellness benefits package; and
  • 120 days for dental illness
