About insure4less Travel Insurance

Insure4less is a travel insurance provider that has more than 40 years of experience in travel insurance. Within that time, insure4less has provided cover for more than two million customers and paid out more than $40 million in claims, according to the company website.

All insure4less travel insurance policies are underwritten by Chase Underwriting Pty Ltd. Its most comprehensive policy is the Excel Plus Policy, which has been reviewed below.

On ProductReview, an independent consumer review site, insure4less has received 2.4 stars from only 36 reviews. The disparity between the amount of customers served (two million) and the mere 36 customer reviews means this ranking should be considered cautiously.

What Is And Isn’t Covered?

Insure4less Excel Plus Policy is its most comprehensive travel insurance policy, available to Australians up to and including 70 years of age at the time of taking out the policy. For those travelling with children, dependent children up to 21 years old will be included on the policy provided the child is not in full time employment and is travelling with you for the entire duration of the trip.

Within the policy, there is personal liability cover up to $7.5 million and a car hire excess cover of up to $3,000. Unfortunately, credit card fraud is not covered.

In terms of cancellations, the insure4less Excel Plus Policy provides up to $7,500 per person to cover cancellation fees. Certain conditions must be met to qualify for this cancellation cover, and unfortunately Covid-19 is not included as a valid qualifier.

Further, missed connecting flights are covered up to the value of $1,000. Other inclusions regarding lost luggage and medical cover are explained in further detail below.

Lost Luggage

Lost luggage is covered up to $5,000 with the insure4less Excel Plus Policy. A $750 sub-limit applies for each valuable, with the sub-limit increased to $2,000 for each camera, video camera, laptop and other valuable electronics.

Medical

The insure4less Excel Plus Policy covers unlimited medical expenses, including emergency repatriation and evacuation.

Most travel insurance providers automatically include cover for pre-existing medical conditions, such as Coeliac disease or asthma. Unfortunately, insure4less does not despite its unlimited medical cover.

Instead, assessment is required for all medical conditions to determine if cover will be provided while you are travelling—usually via on online medical questionnaire.

Is Dental Cover Included in Medical?

No, dental cover is not included in the unlimited medical cover. Instead, for emergency dental treatment, there is only cover up to $500.

Does it Cover Me for Covid?

Yes, insure4less includes medical expenses related to Covid-19 in its unlimited overseas medical expenses cover. Insure4less will also cover additional expenses that occur if you need to return early due to a covid diagnosis.

Unfortunately, cancellations due to covid are not covered.

What about Pregnancy?

Yes, pregnancy is covered with the insure4less Excel Plus Policy’s unlimited medical expenses. This is only up to the 18th week of pregnancy and provided that there are no pre-existing complications. Additionally, the pregnancy cannot have been medically assisted.

As is standard for travel insurance providers, childbirth is not covered.

Sports and Activities

For the adventurous travellers, insure4less’ Excel Plus Policy automatically includes more than 120 activities. These are all listed in the product disclosure statement, so travellers are advised to consider any recreational activities they may be interested in partaking in and review the PDS before purchasing a policy.

The 120 automatically included activities do not include snow sports, but extra cover can be purchased to cover such activities.

Customer Service

Insure4less offers its policyholders 24/7 emergency assistance. While there is a phone number for enquiries regarding claims, all general enquiries are required to contact insure4less via email.

To submit a claim, policyholders can do so online via the insure4less website or via the claims phone line, which is available 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Insure4less says claims will be assessed within 10 working days.

Who Should Take Out This Insurance?

The insure4less Excel Plus Policy is best suited to travellers looking to undertake recreational activities while on their trip. This is because there are 120 activities automatically included within the policy, while many other policy providers require a higher premium for so many activities. With the Excel Plus Policy, there is an additional cost to add snow sport cover to the policy.
