About Kia

Kia’s story begins in December 1944, with the founding of the Kyungsung Precision Industry metal tubing and bicycle parts company. Renamed Kia Industries in 1952, the company began building motorcycles for Honda in 1957 and Mazda trucks in 1962. Later, the partnership with Mazda extended to cars, Kia eventually building cars for Fiat and Peugeot in an arrangement that lasted until the early 80s. Kia began manufacturing cars under its own name around 1990 and entered the U.S. market a couple of years later.

Today, Kia produces a wide range of vehicles, though the brand does not offer any coupes or pickup trucks. From the get-go, Kia’s bread and butter have been family-oriented automobiles that prioritize value over anything else, and that hasn’t changed. Once thought of as cheap cars left for the bottom of the barrel, Kias now stand out with upscale technologies, significantly improved quality, more unique and individualistic designs, and stellar warranties. Initially aimed at youthful and adventurous customers on a tight budget, Kia is now fielding competitive products that require no conditional asterisk next to their names. Overlook at your own risk.
