About Infiniti

Infiniti sprung to life in 1985 as a way for its parent company, Nissan, to remain wholly competitive in the North America and Europe luxury markets, where premium vehicles, especially those from Germany, were already deeply rooted. Initially based out of Nissan’s headquarters in Yokahama, Japan, in 2012 Infiniti was incorporated in Hong Kong as Infiniti Global limited. Today, Nissan’s luxury marque is a global fixture and its products are available in more than 50 countries around the globe. The company’s specialty is developing and building stylish, posh, performance-inspired sedans, coupes, convertibles and sport utility vehicles.

In 2012, the automaker announced a shift in the brand strategy and “revamped” its entire lineup—in name only. That meant, dropping Infiniti’s traditional M, G, FX, JX and EX naming convention in favor of one that identified its automobiles better: Q for cars and QX for SUVs. For example, the TK50 became the QX50.

Unfortunately, the new naming convention caused more confusion at first than clarification as the vehicles themselves were almost all carryover models (i.e., Same vehicle, new badge) rather than all-new or redesigned vehicles.

That was then, this is now. Infiniti’s current lineup consists of eight models—a coupe (Q60), three sedans (Q50, Q70, Q70L), and four SUVs (QX30, QX50, QX60, QX80). Its vehicles are manufactured in facilities located in China, Japan and the United States. With engines varying from turbocharged four-cylinders to bold V8s as well as half the lineup featuring rear-wheel-drive as standard, Infiniti continues to push its luxury-meets-performance line of attack. And to showcase its engineering innovation, Infiniti has participated in top-level motorsports campaigns, including F1 racing.
