WorldTrips Atlas Journey Premier travel insurance plan

WorldTrips’ Atlas Journey Premier (above) is its highest-rated plan according to Forbes Advisor’s ratings of the best travel insurance. It has the most robust coverage among the Atlas Journey plans. It is worth considering if you’re traveling overseas and have made lots of pre-paid, non-refundable reservations for your trip.

This travel insurance plan provides $150,000 in travel medical insurance per person. Though you can find travel insurance plans with $500,000 in medical expense coverage, you might find $150,000 to be sufficient.

The Atlas Journey Premier plan also offers $1 million in emergency evacuation insurance, which is among the highest limits typically included in travel insurance plans.

Travel delay and trip interruption benefits are also generous and in line with many competitors. The missed connection benefit of $2,000 is great compared to top competitors.

The Atlas Journey Premier plan also gives you the most options for customizing your coverage with add-on benefits and upgrades that provide the most flexibility for cancellation and interruption reimbursements.

WorldTrips Atlas Journey Preferred Travel Insurance Plan

The Atlas Journey Preferred plan might be a good fit if you want a solid travel insurance plan for a vacation abroad and high travel medical expense limits aren’t a major concern. It provides decent coverage for pre- and post-departure trip benefits.

The Preferred plan provides the same cancellation, interruption and emergency evacuation benefits as the Premier plan. It has slightly lower limits for delay, missed connection and baggage insurance. It also has lower travel medical expense coverage than the Premier plan, but it’s still decent at $100,000.

There are many optional upgrades you can add to a Preferred plan to customize your coverage.

WorldTrips Atlas Journey Economy Travel Insurance Plan

As the name suggests, the Atlas Journey Economy travel insurance plan is good for those wanting basic coverage. It may also be a good choice for travelers who are primarily concerned with standard trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage.

The Economy plan has lower benefit limits than the Premier and Preferred plans. Most notably it has travel medical expense limits of just $25,000 per person. That means it might not be ideal if you’re taking an international trip where your U.S. health plan may have limited or no coverage. It can supplement your individual health insurance plan if you are taking a domestic trip.

You can’t get cancellation and interruption upgrades for the Economy plan, but many add-on benefits are available for specialty coverage.

Delays, Missed Connections, Inconvenience and Mileage Award Benefits

Here are more details of WorldTrips Atlas Journey travel insurance plans listed above.

Travel Delay

This benefit helps pay for meals, lodging and transportation if your trip is delayed for five hours or more for a reason listed in your policy. It applies to delays that occur on the way to your departure point, during your trip and on your way home.

Travel delay benefits for Journey plans also reimburse you for one free movie rental during a hotel stay and for charges to use the internet at the airport during a wait.

Missed Connection

If you arrive three or more hours late for your cruise, tour or flight departure due to a reason listed in your policy, this benefit pays the extra transportation cost for catching up to your itinerary. It also pays for unused, pre-paid, non-refundable portions of your trip you miss, up to your policy limits.

Missed connection benefits apply if there’s a common carrier (for instance, your airline) delay or severe weather prevents you from getting to your departure on time, among other reasons. It also covers missed connections due to quarantine, but otherwise does not apply if you are sick or injured.

Travel Inconvenience

The travel inconvenience benefit is not available for the Economy plan. This coverage compensates you up to your policy limits if:

  • You arrive home late due to an airline delay or cancellation and miss two or more days of work.
  • Your return flight is forced to land more than 50 miles from your original ticketed destination.
  • A security breach at the airport delays your departure.
  • You’re physically assaulted.
  • You have a documented theft of your passport.
  • Your credit card or debit card is canceled while you’re on your trip for unforeseen reasons.

Fees to Reinstate Mileage and Hotel Awards

This coverage comes into play if you cancel a trip due to a reason listed in your policy, and you used frequent flier miles or hotel rewards for any part of your trip. It will reimburse you up to your policy limits for the fees you pay to redeposit the miles or rewards in your account.
