VyprVPN at a Glance

VyprVPN offers a standard plan, with different pricing depending on how long you decide to commit:

  • One month: $10 USD ($13.48 CAD) per month
  • 12 months: $5 USD ($6.74 CAD) per month (billed annually)

Plus, customers get access to over 70 server locations around the world.

VyprVPN also offers two business tiers. VyprVPN for Business starts at $299 USD ($403.24 CAD) per year, and VyprVPN for Business Cloud starts at $349 USD ($470.68 CAD) per year. These prices are on the higher end of the spectrum, and only the more expensive plan comes with dedicated IP addresses and dedicated business servers.

Chameleon Protocol

VyprVPN’s proprietary VPN protocol offers a high level of security by scrambling data so that third parties will not be able to access it while maintaining fast internet speeds. It claims to work with even the strictest censorship areas like China so that users can bypass geo-blocking restrictions.

VyprDNS

This DNS server is 100% owned by Golden Frog and is only available for VyprVPN’s customers. This means that your internet activity is less likely to be detected by third parties, increasing user privacy. Users can also trust that the company’s no logs policy will be enforced.

Kill Switch

Users can turn on the kill switch feature to turn off or block the internet connection when VyprVPN is disconnected for any reason. Users can customize their kill switch settings to suit their security preferences. Options include stopping all internet traffic when you’re logged onto VyprVPN, not logged on or blocking LAN traffic.

Fine Print

Only the 36-month plan offers a fully refundable 30-day money-back guarantee. VyprVPN’s subscription lengths are also unusual, presumably to market very low monthly rates despite the fact that you pay for such plans upfront. It only offers two-month, 18-month and three-year plans for standard (non-business) VPN services. Most other VPNs offer month-to-month and annual plans.

VyprVPN may be a great fit for many, but it also lacks features you may want. That’s why it’s important to compare a few VPN providers to determine the best fit. Mullvad VPN and NordVPN are two popular providers offering a few similar features. At first glance, VyprVPN stands out because of its competitive pricing and higher number of simultaneous connections—30 is a massive number compared with the industry standard of five.

However, there are a few reasons why you may want to consider going elsewhere.

First, VyprVPN has a relatively low number of servers. Though not a major dealbreaker, NordVPN offers almost 10 times the amount—users have more options to connect to faster servers and bypass geo-blocking restrictions. Plus, NordVPN’s dedicated IP server add-on is at a much lower price. Mullvad has more servers but comes at a higher fee and there’s no dedicated IP server feature. If you’re looking for the lowest price and aren’t interested in additional features, VyprVPN is a decent choice.

Is VyprVPN Right for You or Your Business?

VyprVPN is best suited for individuals or for the occasional remote worker who wants a cheap and fairly reliable VPN service. You’ll be hard-pressed to find pricing for much lower than what this company is offering, so long as you’re comfortable with committing to a three-year plan.

Small businesses looking for more robust features can look into VyprVPN’s business cloud plan but beware of the price tag.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a kill switch?

A kill switch is a security feature provided by many VPN companies to protect your web activity in the event you lose connection to your VPN server. When this happens, the kill switch will block internet traffic to and from your device until the VPN server connection is re-established.

Why should I care about a VPN company being independently audited?

Although VPN companies are generally trustworthy, having some kind of third-party auditing allows a company to legitimize their claims. For instance, if a VPN provider claims it doesn’t log your internet activity, having a third-party audit can be a way to prove that this is true. The same goes for any other security and privacy features a company claims to have.

What can I access with a VPN?

VPNs can allow you to access geo-restricted content in other countries. Many customers use them to access international content on streaming services that are not available in their home country. They can also be used to bypass any government restrictions you may have in your region.

Is VyprVPN secure?

VyprVPN offers multiple VPN protocols, including WireGuard and OpenVPN, that use 256-bit encryption. This means that you can trust the data you submit will be safely transmitted, hidden from prying eyes.

Is VyprVPN any good?

VyprVPN can be a great fit for users who just need a basic VPN at a low price. It doesn’t offer as many features as the competition, which can provide far more servers and plans that don’t require a three-year commitment.
