TrustedPals Pet Insurance Plans and Coverage

TrustedPals is currently not accepting new applications.

Current TrustedPals customers can still use the company’s accident and illness plan, which is the most common type of pet insurance policy that covers the widest range of health-related problems. It also offers an optional wellness plan. Trusted Pals does not offer an accident-only plan.

Accident and Illness Coverage

Here are the some of the expenses covered by TrustedPal’s accident and illness plan:

  • Accidents such as toxic ingestion and broken bones
  • Behavioral training or therapy (if prescribed by your vet)
  • Diagnostics and testing
  • Illnesses such as an ear infection and cancer
  • Prescription food and nutritional supplements
  • Prescription medications
  • Supplies necessary for the medical care of your pet such as bandages
  • Surgery

TrustedPals Pet Insurance Add-Ons

TrustedPals offers a wellness plan to help pay for some of the preventive care costs a pet requires. For an additional cost, you can add a wellness plan. This will reimburse you up to $750 per year for routine care expenses such as:

  • Annual wellness exams
  • Dental preventative cleaning
  • Flea, tick and heartworm prevention
  • Prescribed nutritional supplements
  • Prescription pet food
  • Spaying or neutering
  • Vaccinations

What TrustedPals Pet Insurance Doesn’t Cover

Like other plans, TrustedPals pet insurance doesn’t cover every expense. Some expenses excluded are:

  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Boarding, grooming and transportation costs
  • Anything not prescribed by your vet, such as dietary supplements
  • Expenses not related directly to the care of your pet, such as costs for copies of medical records, taxes, licenses and waste disposal

Keep in mind, preventative care costs such as vaccinations and annual wellness are covered unless you add the wellness plan.

TrustedPals Waiting Periods for Coverage

Pet insurance companies typically have a specific period of time before coverage begins after you buy a policy. This amount of time is referred to as a waiting period. TrustedPals has these waiting periods:

  • 14 days for accidents or illness
  • 12 months for cruciate ligament issues
  • 12 months for hip dysplasia

TrustedPals 14-day accident waiting period is longer than some competitors who have a one-day or two-day accident waiting period, like Lemonade or Figo. Because accidents are unpredictable, a shorter accident waiting period may give you peace of mind knowing your coverage for an accident won’t take long to kick in. The 14-day illness waiting period is average across the industry.

The two extended waiting periods are relatively long compared to other insurers who may only have a six-month waiting period for a cruciate ligament condition or no extended waiting periods at all.
