The popularity of cannabidiol (CBD) oil surged in recent years as evolving research supported its calming and pain-relieving properties. It’s readily available everywhere, from grocery store checkout lines to big box stores to online boutiques, but not all CBD oil is created equal. “Different manufacturers have different extraction processes,” says Stacy Green, M.D., a functional and integrative medicine practitioner in Boulder, Colorado. “So when you buy CBD oil and I buy CBD oil, we may be getting very different things.”

I recently integrated Lazarus Naturals’ THC-Free High-Potency CBD Oil Tincture into my daily wellness routine to gauge whether its perceived benefits are worth the additional monthly expense. I opted for the blood orange-flavored tincture and took it twice daily for two weeks. Here’s a review of my experience.

About Lazarus Naturals

Lazarus Naturals is a CBD oil manufacturer with headquarters in Seattle and Portland, Oregon. All of the company’s tincture ingredients are grown, extracted and isolated in house, and they use biodegradable and recycled packaging. Each batch of products undergoes third-party testing before they’re sent from the farm to customers. The lab tests for residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, microbial impurities and potency, and all results are available on the company website under the “product details” heading for each product.

How Much Does Lazarus Naturals CBD Oil Cost?

I purchased the 60-milliliter bottle of Lazarus Naturals THC-Free High-Potency CBD Oil Tincture in the blood orange flavor, which retails for $70. The bottle contains a total of 3,000 milligrams of CBD, or 50 milligrams per milliliter dropper serving, which translates to about $1.17 per serving. I was hesitant to spend so much money on a product entirely new to me, but I took the plunge based on the purported health benefits of CBD oil.

Lazarus Naturals CBD Oil's Potency

The directions on the Lazarus Naturals CBD oil packaging instructed me to start with a low dose of 25 milligrams, or half a dropper, and see how my body responded. I waited two hours as instructed, but I didn’t feel any noticeable difference after my initial dose. Although I was disappointed, I decided to try again before bed. Unfortunately, I still felt nothing, so I gradually increased my dose size to 75 milligrams over the course of the next few days.

By the seventh day of my trial, I began to notice subtle results, including a mellow, blissed-out feeling akin to drinking half a glass of wine or a very weak cocktail with dinner.

“Your body’s receptor system is different from person to person,” says Dr. Green. “The way you metabolize all drugs has an effect on that as well. I’ve had a range of patients saying, ‘No, that doesn’t do anything for me,’ or, ‘It started to work, but then it stopped.’ I’ve heard it all. That tells me not so much that this is snake oil, but that there are really complex systems in play that we simply don’t understand yet.”

The Quality of Lazarus Naturals CBD Oil

Lazarus Naturals harvests hemp from its own farms to produce all of its CBD products. The THC-free high-potency CBD oil tincture I tried is non-GMO and made with three ingredients: organic coconut oil, cannabidiol and naturally-derived blood orange extract.

I appreciated the effort Lazarus Naturals makes to promote clean ingredients rather than using inexpensive, lower-quality fillers. I was also impressed with the variety of flavors available for the tinctures, including mango pineapple and winter-mint.

The Lazarus Naturals Experience

Although I was somewhat disappointed with my Lazarus Naturals CBD oil experience, I think it was largely due to the fact that I had no idea what to expect. I had never tried CBD oil before, so I assumed I would feel a noticeable difference right away. However, this product seemed to have more of a cumulative effect for me, which could be frustrating if your body reacts similarly.

The longer I used the CBD oil, the more relaxed and less anxious I felt. I wouldn’t say I felt any less stressed than I do after a restorative yoga class or a Swedish massage, but I do think this tincture could become a worthy addition to my regular wellness routine.

Final Thoughts

If it weren’t for the hefty price tag, I would recommend this product to anyone who (like me) wants to experiment with holistic lifestyle products. I think it’s a good starting point for people who are hesitant to try full-spectrum CBD, which contains trace amounts of the intoxicating compound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that remains illegal in some states.

That said, I probably won’t continue to use this product since one bottle only lasted me two weeks. At that rate, I would be spending $140 a month—or almost $1,700 a year—on CBD oil. I’ll likely stick to yoga and meditation classes to combat my stress and anxiety for now.
